I am deeply saddened by the news of Jane’s death. I never met her, but she was a boisterous, provocative, funny online penpal, and, most importantly, a poet of rare lyric grace. It was an honor to publish the poem below earlier this summer.
Some lit journals pay nothing. Today, appreciatively, I received a modest check from @utulsa for this poem, which appeared in @NimrodJournal last month. Editor-in-chief @BorisDralyuk and his excellent young staff put out a first-class journal that respects the folks it publishes.

I am devastated to hear this. Jane was just about my favourite person on this site, a lovely woman inside and out. Her death is a loss to her family, the world of poetry, and anyone who enjoyed sharp wit. Going to buy her books to remember her by. Requiem aeternam, Mrs. Greer.

My heart is just breaking.
Khaled Mazhar, head of the Evangelical Good Shepherd Church in Sweida, was executed along with 12 family members including children, his brother, and elderly parents. A total of 20 people were murdered. They had lived peacefully in Sweida for years. May their memory be blessed.
