"If the workers are organized, all they have to do is to put their hands in their pockets and they have got the capitalist class whipped." Bill Haywood
In 2010, the UFW launched a “Take Our Jobs” campaign, which offered training to citizens wishing to perform farm labor. They got 35 applications. "In less than a month, everybody was gone (from the fields). Some of them were gone even before ending one day of work."
Crazy talk: A Trump crony says Mexican farmworkers can be replaced by Americans fresnobee.com/opinion/editor…
JFK is letting an Israeli weapons company ship weekly from a civilian airport tons of explosive ammunitions and weapons to Israel helping to facilitate genocide. Protesters are gathering today to rally nearby due to a flight at 2PM flying out with over 20,000 lbs of explosives.
Due to the possibility of protest activity today that could disrupt airport operations and the obligation to maintain good order for airport users, access to critical areas of the airport, including AirTrain JFK at Jamaica Station, will be restricted to ticketed passengers,…
Don’t let this get lost in the noise: @Columbia just inked a deal with the federal government to trigger ICE abduction when an international student gets arrested for any reason.
Deeply concerning part of Columbia's capitulation to Trump: Foreign students arrested at protests can now be detained by ICE regardless of whether university admin's punish them. Significant escalation of efforts to chill speech & protest activity by non-citizen students.
Heartbreaking: Trusted therapist tells you the exact opposite of what you wanted to hear
They said it couldn’t be done; that there was no money to spare for a living wage floor. Guess they found the money! Now @BxDUnion workers have set a living wage floor for nonattorney workers ie investigators, advocates, & admin workers in NYC. Wall-to-wall & union strong 🦾
The strike is over! Today @BxDUnion workers are back at work, defending indigent and working class New Yorkers after successfully advocating for a living wage for *all* BxD workers. We are proud to set the standard for fair wages for all IAA legal services workers City-wide.
People don’t understand that it can REALLY be you. Homeless, sick, depressed, no job… literally anything unfortunate can happen in the blink of an eye. Life crazy like that. Always stay humble & be grateful.
I have. I've met people with down syndrome, cancer, MS, alzheimers, paraplegics - all living on the streets. They die. Very soon after they stop being able to access medical care, people with disabilities on the streets just die.
I have never seen a homeless person with Down syndrome
You can be having the worst day of your life and here comes a mfer talking about "I move to amend the amendment to the amendment to the motion."
The mayor keeps posting 'before & after' pics of cleared tents but never any follow ups on the ppl who used to live there. Did they get housing/rehab/medical help? How did they end up there? Do we only care about hiding homelessness, not solving it? I think the answer is clear 😟
“is this a joke to you” unfortunately everything is a little bit of a joke to me
BREAKING: Rescue cat that refuses to eat cat treats, wet food, or anything else really, caught devouring unattended bowl of pasta
"I asked chatgpt" "I asked grok" well I asked this guy and he told me "Greetings I am Archer, emissary of the Gorgonites."
I know this is really difficult for the right to understand, but able bodied people on Medicaid are already working. They qualify for this assistance because the corporations that employ them refuse to pay them enough to afford health insurance.
Question for my fellow union members: When was the last time you attended a union meeting?
We have so little of each other now-So far from tribe and fire. Only brief moments of exchange. What if these are the true dwelling of the holy, these fleeting temples we make together when we say "Here, have my seat"-"Go ahead, you first"-"I like your hat." -D. Laméris
