Video abstract of PK Mito Orange prepared by our collaborator Dr. Till Stephan
PKMO: a new dye by @ZhixingChen2 that allows multi-color live-cell STED of #mitochondria. We´re so excited about this wonderful collaboration that we prepared a video to highlight some of the data recorded by @TianyanL and @stephan_till . 👇 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
🚨Excited to share my latest postdoc work in this #biorxiv preprint on developing split-HaloTag recorders for capturing cellular transient kinase activity, Kinprola (kinase activity dependent protein labeling). biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵 (1/7)
Check it out at PNAS today. Thank you Alexandre for the collaboration!! PK Mem probes offer long time-lapse imaging of cell membrane dynamics. Made possible by @JingLing369, Yitong Liu, and all the collaborators! Available @spirochrome
Thrilled to collaborate with @ZhixingChen2 Lab @PKU1898! We tested new PK Mem dyes—gentle, photostable tools to label the plasma membrane in live neurons, making it easier to track growth cone motility & axonal transport. #liveimaging #neuroscience tiny.cc/3qhp001
Here come our new palette of fluorescent dyes. The BD dyes endeaves to balance glowy brightness, robust photostability, and biocompatibility. Let's boost 4D dynamic super-resolution imaging!!! nature.com/articles/s4159… @spirochrome
Today we report the directed evolution of HUH (a sequence-sequence covalent protein tag for ssDNA labeling) into rHUH, a sequence-specific covalent protein tag for RNA labeling. rHUH was hard to engineer: the initial HUH template had no RNA activity, so we started with RNA-DNA…

My heart is broken as I announce the passing of my beloved husband, science partner and friend, Michael Sheetz. A remarkable scientist we packed 40 years of living into 20. Rejuvenation of senescent cells and mice in Press in Aging Cell; his last words were this was his best work
Happy New Year, everyone🍀 Excited to see one of my live-cell STED super-resolution microscopy images featured in this year’s @ibidiCells calendar! 🎉 Mitochondria stained by PKMO by @ZhixingChen2 and 610CP-CTX by @AndImaging , recorded on an @Abberior Expert Line.
How proximal is proximity labeling❓ Using DNA nanorulers we found that TurboID/BioID are largely contact labeling, while APEX2 also bears a major contact labeling pathway in parallel with diffusive labeling. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Special thanks to Alice Ting for discussions!

Great collaborations between junior PIs😀PK mito dyes excel in applications beyond imaging and beyond traditional model animals!
I am thrilled to share our paper nature.com/articles/s4146… Mitochondrial dynamics govern whole-body regeneration through stem cell pluripotency and mitonuclear balance| Nature Communications great collaboration @Orangeroad2017 @ZhixingChen2
the department of polymer at Peking University is looking for 2 PIs at both junior and mid-career levels, all backgrounds are welcomed, but would prioritize those in polymer physics, functional soft matters, and AI for polym. sci. Pls contact me ([email protected]) or RT.
I'm flattered everytime I see a multi-color movie with our gentle dyes together with mStayGold!
Time-lapse recording of floorplate cytonemes (green) interacting with axons (magenta). 1 image taken every second for 10 min (played at 30 fps). Cytonemes love interacting with axons! 💚#FluorescenceFriday
😍 PKmem 555 in action! Thanks for sharing!
'Ne me quitte pas'... Live imaging of two axonal growth cones meeting, interacting, and then separating. 🔬Can you spot the peculiar event happening between those two?🧐#neuroscience @UZH_Science
Our Gentle Rhodamines is finally published @ACSCentSci. See the healthy cytoskeleton free from photodamage even after 800 frames! 🦾💪 pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac… Great collaboration with Julian Kompa, the Johnsson group, and Spirochrome! @JulianKompa @spirochrome @TianyanL
A nice talk from Stefan in PKU, with a lot of mitochondria, superresolution, and some twists to cryoEM in the end . Then we ended the day in the Emperior's diner for dinner😀 @JakobsLab @ZhixingChen2 @xipeng1
🎉🍾10 YEARS - NEW WEBSITE! 🎂 Join us in celebrating Spirochrome's 10th anniversary and visit our new website! spirochrome.com 10 years ago, the freshly founded Spirochome started commercializing its first two products, SiR-actin and SiR-tubulin! Today, with about 40…
Nice work!
Since long time we tried to achieve “permanent” labelling of plasma membranes. Now it become possible with MemGraft probes, which exploit a new principle of lipid-directed covalent fluorescent labeling of membrane proteins. The MemGraft probes are compatible with fixation,…
Very sad news. He was a pivotal contributor to the probes community and beyond.
Holy eff-ing F. Allan Waggoner passed😢 He invented CY3/5. I met him 2 decades ago when he told me that the CY dyes would change the world. I told everyone about CY5 - and was dismissed because “you can’t see it with your eye”
Glad to launch another collaboration with SpiroChrome! @spirochrome
🚨MORE NEW PRODUCTS🚨 The new and amazing "Gentle" Plasma Membrane (PM) PKmem™ probes from @ZhixingChen2 lab will be available at Spirochrome by the end of May. PKmem probes advantages: ✅Fast staining ✅Reduced phototoxicity ✅Robust and specific PM staining ✅SIM & #STED…
