1) Israel is using starvation as a method of warfare in Gaza – a war crime. New @HRW report out today: hrw.org/news/2023/12/1… In the following thread, I’ll go into some of the details.

Hospitals overwhelmed, power out, aid blocked—@hrw reports on the unfolding crisis in Sweida. hrw.org/news/2025/07/2…
The @LemkinInstitute is calling on every leader in the world to step in immediately with measures that ensure food and water gets into Gaza right now. No more discussions, meetings, reports, sessions, summits. GET FOOD AND WATER INTO GAZA NOW. IF YOU HAVE THE POWER, YOU…
It is so late, Ms Kallas. Only sanctions can stop Israel. Suspending the EU agreement with Israel is a must. Anything less will be just performance, which the millions of Europeans who are grieving for the genodice in Gaza, would much prefer being spared from.
The killing of civilians seeking aid in Gaza is indefensible. I spoke again with @gideonsaar to recall our understanding on aid flow and made clear that IDF must stop killing people at distribution points. All options remain on the table if Israel doesn’t deliver on its pledges
People in #Gaza, including UNRWA colleagues, are fainting due to severe hunger. They are being starved. Meanwhile, just a few kilometers away from Gaza supermarkets and shops are loaded with food and other goods. Lift the siege. Allow UNRWA to bring in food and medicines.
A local journalist shared video showing a hospital death registry. @hrw counted 306 names. Most had arrived on July 16 or 17, including at least 23 children. Most deaths were attributed to gunshot wounds—some to the head—and others to fragment injuries. hrw.org/news/2025/07/2…
Sweida is collapsing under militia violence, abusive then absent state intervention, Israeli airstrikes, & rising sectarian incitement. 1000s displaced. Hospitals out of service. Aid stalled. This is a crisis of governance and humanity. New for @hrw hrw.org/news/2025/07/2…

New from @hrw: Jordanian authorities is forcibly evicting the Bedul Bedouin community from their historic homes in Petra — cutting water, suspending salaries, and detaining residents without charge. hrw.org/news/2025/07/2… @UNESCOJordan @UNESCO

. @UNCoISyria notes submission of national fact-finding report on March coastal events to #Syrian Presidency & looks forward to findings made public. Events in #Suwayda underscore urgent need for accountability & reform to ensure protection of civilians. sana.sy/?p=2250827
Hostilities in As-Sweida, southern #Syria, continue for over 6 days, causing casualties and displacement. Urgent needs: 🔹 Safe passage for civilians 🔹 Medical aid 🔹 Food and water 🔹 Protection for aid workers More information in OCHA Flash Update No.1 bit.ly/4lZizSf
Al-Sharaa’s praise for tribal mobilization is deeply troubling. Empowering armed actors outside state command risks entrenching militia politics at the expense of institutional reform. Syria needs a professional, accountable security sector—not new loyalist factions.

Do not be surprised when we journalists stop covering news here. I swear by God that today I could not get up from the hunger. There is no food. Even if someone has money, there is nothing in the market to even purchase. We are all starving. We are all dying.
According to @alwatan_sy the details of the agreement include: - Entry of state administrative and security institutions into the governorate. - Integration of Suwayda’s local faction members into the security services and Ministry of Defense, with the task of maintaining…
BREAKTHROUGH —— Israeli Prime Minister @Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa @SyPresidency supported by the U.S.A. @SecRubio have agreed to a ceasefire embraced by Türkiye, Jordan and its neighbors. We call upon Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to put down their weapons and…
Even if the bloodshed stops, repairing the sectarian/societal damage of the past week will require an unprecedented level of confidence-building measures from Damascus. Trust between different segments of Syrian society has eroded to the brink.
S. #Syria: tribal mobilization shows no signs of slowing down. Convoys continue pouring into #Suwayda tonight, reinforcing thousands of fighters from more than 20 tribes. The phenomenon is escalating beyond control - an unprecedented development in Syria’s modern history.…
S. #Syria: on the battlefield, tribal fighters are approaching tonight the city of #Suwayda, attacking from the NW. Earlier in the day, lack of coordination and limited ammunition supplies hindered their progress. Tribal convoys are still arriving this evening.
🧵1/ Today in Damascus, peaceful protesters against massacres from both sides in Sweida were brutally attacked by pro-government thugs armed with sticks and knives, where? In front of the parliament. Who was watching with do nothing? general security.

Civil Peace Committee has only fostered further hate and division rather than promoting social cohesion: from releasing perpetrators & rehabilitating Fadi Saqr + dismissing his victims' concerns, to denying Alawite women are being kidnapped & now supporting tribes' mobilization.
Very disturbing to see a member of the committee tasked with preserving civil peace in Syria openly celebrating the tribal mobilization as a religious duty to “invade” Sweida—rather than using his position to deescalate tensions and prevent further violence. He should step down.
