Incredibly grateful to @arishapiro and @alejanse_ for such a powerful report on what the suspension of the refugee program means for people like Reine and Jacombo. Listen to the story below, including insight from @KrishVignarajah of @GlobalRefuge. 🎧 npr.org/2025/01/24/nx-…

Hoping to refer someone with experience at the intersection of communications and fundraising — drop me a line if that’s you or someone you know (DMs open and email in bio).

So let me get this straight: a bipartisan bill to provide permanent legal status (but not citizenship) for undocumented immigrants, a policy which polls have shown for decades is supported by the American public, is more scandalous than Trump covering for a pedophile?
This is a much bigger scandal than the Jeffrey Epstein list, just my opinion!
ICE is eating the federal budget. Thanks to the Big Beautiful Bill, we will spend more this year on ICE than on most other law enforcement agencies *combined.* wapo.st/3U4Lc4s
The sweeping bill Republicans are set to pass includes unprecedented funding that will supercharge efforts to build new immigrant jails, hire thousands of ICE officers and expand the border wall. We broke it all down here: bloomberg.com/news/articles/… w/ @hlowenkron & @aacaldwellLA
The termination of TPS for Afghanistan went into effect last night, leaving up to 11,700 Afghan allies in the US without protection from deportation and, in many cases, without work authorization. #TPS4Afghans 🚨 ACT NOW: globalrefuge.org/TPS4Afghans Our full statement below 👇
Without these protections, thousands of Afghan allies will be left in legal limbo, unable to renew work permits, cut off from the stability they need, and vulnerable to a newly supercharged detention and deportation infrastructure. Full statement: globalrefuge.org/news/tps-for-a…

In several Maryland counties, the sheriff’s office has opted to participate in the “287(g)” program, which allows ICE to delegate certain immigration enforcement abilities to state and local law enforcement officials. For @marylandmatters marylandmatters.org/2025/07/21/as-…
Both of these military bases were used to house Afghan evacuees after the Fall of Kabul. With ~12,000 Afghans slated to be stripped of legal status on Tuesday, the facilities could now be used to detain these same allies before they’re deported back to the Taliban regime.

"Ray, who is in his late 20s, was born in a refugee camp in Nepal and came to the U.S. as a kid. He was recently deported to Bhutan — a tiny Himalayan kingdom that he had never lived in and where his family faced persecution." Story via @julianahyekim npr.org/2025/07/16/g-s…
Amazing. New CNN poll has Trump's approval on immigration absolutely tanking. It's down to 42-58. A 19-point net swing against him on this issue in just the last few months. Curious what those who say we're in midst of societal backlash to 1965 immigration law think of this
My colleague @danielsalazarTX points out the glaring inconsistencies in the WH approach to Afghanistan. In one breath, it argues that Afghanistan is safe to return to, and in the next, it argues the regime is too dangerous as to warrant a full travel ban on Afghan nationals.
A federal appeals court just this afternoon delayed the termination date for TPS for Afghan nationals living in the U.S. Roughly 12,000 Afghans have another week of the protection the status provides. Read more @WNGdotorg wng.org/roundups/the-t…
UPDATE ON TPS FOR AFGHANISTAN: The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals just issued an administrative stay for 7 days — blocking the termination of protections against deportation that was slated to take effect at midnight. The fate of ~11,700 Afghan allies hangs in the balance.

I guess most Americans did not, in fact, vote for mass arrests, indefinite detentions, and the forcible removal of hardworking immigrants with no criminal record
NEW GALLUP POLL: the pendulum has swung drastically since last year. 🟢 just 30% want immigration decreased (55% last year) 🟢 79% of Americans think immigration is GOOD for the country (record high) 🟢 Path to citizenship (78%) beats mass deportation (38%)

This is disgusting. There is always going to be a small segment of any population that is inclined to take pleasure in the suffering of other people. It is the job of government not to encourage that tendency, which debased our social, moral, and political life.
Alligator Alcatraz is not just a moniker used to sell political merchandise, it’s the official name being used in signage and government paperwork.
