Mental healthcare professionals have spent 10 yrs explaining the modus operandi of malignant narcissists like Trump. 🧵 1. Malignant narcissists launch narcissistic smear campaigns with projection, the truth about them. If anyone is committing mortgage fraud or has, it’s Trump.
Trump just said Schiff merits "prison" for the "fraud" an IG supposedly found. Again, I talked to experts/former IG who described the process used here as deeply troubling. This is his model for manipulating bureaucracy to hatch pretexts to target foes: newrepublic.com/article/198074…
@Jim_Jordan I found a really good instance for your "Weaponization of the Government" Committee to look into.

NEW: Their agenda is so unpopular, they’re rigging the midterms in plain sight. Trump and Republicans want to steal 5 House seats – not by earning votes, by redrawing maps. I wrote about this + why Democrats must use their power ruthlessly, just like Beto O’Rourke said on CNN.
Pretty clearly throwing Kash Patel under the bus here.
Reporter: Why doesn’t the President just order the FBI to release the full Epstein files? Leavitt: The President has said if the DOJ/FBI want to move forward with releasing any credible evidence, they should do so. As to why they have not—you should ask the FBI
Keep talking, tough guy
Homan: I read another story about how most people in ICE detention aren’t criminals. I saw a story the other day that only 1% were murderers. Are you kidding me? Being in the country illegally is not illegal anymore?
Aaron is right, but please let's also make the key distinction between dumb social media posts and examples where the bureaucracy is *actually being used to manufacture a set of "facts" as a pretext for prosecutions,* which is happening in Schiff's case newrepublic.com/article/198074…
I hope everyone notices that Trump is trying to normalize the idea of arresting political opponents for no reason (Trump attempted a coup in 2021 so miss me with the false equivalences)
Great point from @michaelsozan on the pod: Battling Trump requires making the case not just that we can weather his authoritarianism, but also that we can emerge from it unbowed and stronger. Key to breaking the spell he's casting. Our exchange on this: newrepublic.com/article/198151…

Will no one rid me of this #meddlesome senator?
Do Trump comments about Schiff cause underlings to carry out vendettas? Good Q! Look at William Pulte, Trump loyalist who heads Federal Housing Finance Agency, which has now "found" supposedly illegal conduct by two Trump foes, Letitia James and Schiff: newrepublic.com/article/198074…

Young's commentary came as he is weighing the adminsitration's decision to arrest/seek to deport student activists with pro-Palestinian views. He wondered whether Trump's comments about people like Adam Schiff and Elon Musk cause underlings to carry out his vendettas.
Non-stop corruption 24/7

It's a big story that Trump and/or strategically placed loyalists inside the administration are now actively manipulating the bureaucracy to generate sets of "facts" that are clearly designed to serve as the pretext for criminal prosecution.

The Trump Administration is thoroughly corrupt root and branch.

Time to focus on William Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. He's a Trump loyalist who was behind the "mortgage fraud" claims about Letitia James, too. Now this same agency has "found" alleged misconduct by Sen Adam Schiff.

"From beginning to end, this process is highly irregular. It is extremely unusual for the response to any IG request to go to head of agency rather than back to OIG. So far as I know, it is unprecedented for such raw info to be forwarded to WH." -former IG Michael Bromwich:

Folks, this is not the same as Trump posting a picture of Obama in an orange jump suit. In the case of Schiff, the bureaucracy was *actually used to generate a fact-set that is supposed to demonstrate wrongdoing.* That process itself deserves scrutiny. It's itself the story.

This is not just Trump bloviating. It's not a "distraction play." It's been referred to DOJ for potential prosecution. So when Trump says explicitly that the target (in this case Adam Schiff) should go to "prison" for this, it's functionally a directive to DOJ to act.

Is everyone going to shrug at Trump explicitly saying a sitting US Senator should go to prison based on claims brought into existence by what appears to be a highly dubious process? Seems like media orgs should be trying to answer the Qs that this raises about Trump/WH's role.

"This is right out of the authoritarian playbook...Trump got a big settlement out of ABC...the Paramount-CBS settlement...led a fight to defund NPR. He banned AP from WH...now threatening to sue WSJ." On the pod, @michaelsozan is great on Colbert firing: newrepublic.com/article/198147…
