@WormlockHolmes
Cellular neurobiologist @TIFRScience Mumbai, who loves genetics, live imaging and worms. Science is fun. "Let's go exploring". Sometimes writes poetry.
Multiple PhD tracks to align with student motivation & desired outcome.
See the article below in @Nature titled: "How many PhDs does the world need? Doctoral graduates vastly outnumber jobs in academia". A flawed surmise to begin with. In my opinion, the real issue isn’t about too many PhDs. It is about why people are doing a PhD in the first…
Interesting study
Neurons are hungry for energy, and carry their own batteries. Excited to share our latest study, on the use of glycogen by neurons as a "capacitors" to support glycolytic plasticity. You can find the article here: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… and press release news.yale.edu/2025/07/15/neu…
Let's celebrate the joy of asking, seemingly "stupid" questions. The speaker @TifrArnab says "science is not about getting the exact answer – it's about learning to ask the right questions". 11 AM, Jul 20 at Ruparel College, Mumbai
Marine heatwaves. Vanishing phytoplankton. 12% less rain. @RockSea Dr. Roxy Koll joins @AratiKumarRao and me to talk about what the Indian Ocean is trying to tell us, why we are still not listening, and what the consequences could be: youtube.com/watch?v=FRAzAH…
Me today!!!
Trying to trace back the steps that led you to agree reviewing the paper
Our July cover (hubs.la/Q03vJ8s50) shows a confocal timelapse imaging of #Celegans one-cell embryo expressing fluorescently labeled plasma membrane, microtubules, chromosomes, and ZEN-4, a plus-end directed kinesin motor protein (hubs.la/Q03vJ8yc0). @Sachin_mitosis
Super useful
Announcing the 9th Edition of the online "Biostatistics: A User's Perspective" course. This will be an intuitive understanding of the useful bits, without getting bogged down by the gory maths. sites.google.com/acads.iiserpun… Please consider spreading the word. Thanks!
Beautiful work from @RogerPocockMelb. Dig in
Check out our pre-print on how gas sensing neurons enable animals to anticipate mitochondrial stress! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Love Mumbai. I have another lovely place to visit. Thank you @artdecomumbai for highlighting such buildings.
Cantonese immigrants began arriving in Bombay in the 1800s, with many working on ships and in dockyards. By the early 20th century, Mazgaon had its own Chinatown, with the Kwan Kung Temple on Nawab Tank Road as one of its lasting remnants. Najoo Mansion stands as a testament to…
Congratulations @anupap85. Nice to see it out.
Happy to see an important piece of my work online today @NatureComms from the Bogan lab. We demonstrate TUG regulated trafficking at the ERGIC to maintain homeostasis in the early secretory pathway, and govern autophagy and secretion of Collagens. rdcu.be/euig6
Role of clathrin adaptor complex AP3 in secretion of dense core vesicles from @urssahu. @badal703 from my lab has added an experiment testing the role of AP3 in secretion of neuropeptides in C. elegans. Good to see this on @biorxivpreprint
AP-3 complex sorts preferential cargo to govern dense core vesicle function in neuroendocrine cells biorxiv.org/content/10.110… here is beauty from our lab on how dense core vesicles dance to the tunes of Adaptor protein complex 3.. pls read and share while it finds a home :)
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 @uramakri @NCBS_Bangalore @TIFRScience
🎉We are very excited and proud to share that Prof. Uma Ramakrishnan, Professor at @NCBS_Bangalore, has been elected as an Associate Member of @EMBO ! 🌟Congratulations Prof. @uramakri ! 🔗embo.org/press-releases… #EMBOMembers2025
True that. The role of the reviewer (& editor) is to improve the paper, not merely reject it!
In ‘Let’s Review II’, Mole looks at the role of peer reviewers concluding, ‘it should be our goal to help authors get things right and publish a paper they can be proud of.’ journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/13…
So true....
I always love #worm25 CGC updates! But spread this reminder (*esp* in this funding climate): CREDIT THE CGC on papers! 🪱 Let's keep the CGC around forever: "Some strains were provided by the CGC, which is funded by NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (P40 OD010440)."
Nachiket Mor starts his @TIFRScience ASET colloquium highlighting the diversity in India. "10% live like Scandinavians & 90% live like Sudanese". Talks about mental health pathways to Zero burden.

Looking forward to working with @network_alba
