Functional depletion of MDT-29 during the larval germ line development in #Celegans boosted fecundity through an expansion of the germline stem cell pool & decreased germ cell apoptosis.🪱 Learn more about this #GENETICS study from @RogerPocockMelb lab: buff.ly/21pVeb6

Congratulations to @PedrolpMoreira for his review: Functions of nuclear factor Y in nervous system... : Neural Regeneration Research journals.lww.com/nrronline/abst…
Nice work @MichaelPHart1 and team! I'm looking forward to reading it.
New paper ALERT!! @MaraCowen discovered and defined how conserved autism-associated genes modify a 'social' behavior in C. elegans!! So proud of her work in the lab! nature.com/articles/s4146…
Such groundbreaking fundamental research would be killed by peer reviewers and funding agencies in Australia because it lacks immediate translation/applications. Great to see that Nobel committee continues to recognise that without discoveries there would be nothing to translate.
This year’s #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine honours two scientists for their discovery of a fundamental principle governing how gene activity is regulated. They discovered microRNA, a new class of tiny RNA molecules that play a crucial role in gene regulation.
From fundamental research questions around animal development to life changing health outcomes. @JasonClareMP please adequately fund Australian discovery research. x4 $ amount per year would be a start.
Understanding the regulation of gene activity has been an important goal for many decades. If gene regulation goes awry, it can lead to serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes, or autoimmunity. #NobelPrize
Worm research does it again! @NobelPrize Many congratulations to Victor and Gary. The power of discovery research shining through.
BREAKING NEWS The 2024 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
Great job @LCochella @flames66140 and @rich_j_p!!!
New WormBook.org chapter! With Nuria @flames66140 and @rich_j_p we wrote Neurogenesis in C. elegans, now in Genetics: doi.org/10.1093/geneti… We discuss neuron development specifically, but do have a look if you think about acquisition of cell identity more generally
Our department @JohnsHopkinsMBG (mbg.jhmi.edu) is hiring! Join us to start your independent lab in a collegial and stimulating environment! apply.interfolio.com/149819 Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting September 15, 2024 so don't wait to apply : )
Beautiful work by @ZurynLab! Congratulations!!
Out today! We find that an epigenetic modification (6mA) to the mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) influences lifespan and the heritability of mtDNA mutations to the next generation. It implies that epigenetics determines genetic composition in future offspring. cell.com/cell-metabolis…
Beautiful work @SamStehbens!!
Excited to announce…..it’s finally arrived (!!) nature.com/articles/s4155… A big thank-you to my team (particularly @robertr33), co authors & #FutureFellowship funding from @arc_gov_au Importantly- a big shoutout to @drDJVDavid @NatureCellBio for their support. 👇tweetorial 👇…
We built a simple App to help identify genetic markers for C. elegans crosses. Great for the lab and for teaching genetics! academic.oup.com/g3journal/adva…
