A clergyman in the Church of England in the Diocese of London. Musings in Church and State and late Roman History (and, in fact, any history).
Oxbridge JRF adverts never used to stipulate anything beyond discipline. A Music JRF has just been advertised at Cambridge, for which "research interests that extend beyond Western art music" are preferred. Why not just leave it open and see which topic is most interesting?
The UK Government's Human Rights Memorandum on the Chagos Surrender Bill says Chagossians have no right to self-determination, only Mauritians do! Shameful
There is something quite telling about the relative silence on the genocide occurring just over Israel’s border.
The international press did not want to publish this, so I wrote it anyway, because the truth must be told. 'I’m a Human Rights Lawyer: What’s Happening to the Druze in Syria Is a Real Genocide. Gaza Is Not. Stop Cheapening the 'Crime of Crimes' and Distorting the Truth! '
Last minute trip to @StBartholomews to hear @WalkerMarcus interview @BijanOmrani about his new book 'God is an Englishman' on how Christianity shaped England. @holland_tom you got a mention along with Donoghue v Stevenson! You can hear @holysmoke interview Bijan on this…

There are, in fact, Thirty Nine English ~Values~, and they start with “Of Faith In The HOLY TRINITY: There is but one living and true God, ever- lasting, without body, parts, or passions; of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the Maker, and Preserver of all things both…”
"There are five British values" is just unimprovable post-Blair deracination. 'We've reduced the last thousand years of your history into a checklist designed to avoid excluding anyone in an effort to fix the mess we've made of the country. You have five values now.' 'ok'

Such a pleasure and privilege to return to @StBartholomews for this conversation with @walkermarcus and a wonderful audience!
A fascinating talk yesterday, hearing @BijanOmrani speak about themes related to his book, ‘God is an Englishman: Christianity and the creation of England’; hosted (brilliantly) by @WalkerMarcus & @StBartholomews. I look forward to reading this book!
Illuminating and enjoyable conversation in @StBartholomews this evening between @WalkerMarcus and @BijanOmrani, whose new book goes straight to the top of my reading pile.
Yes, when a Shadow minister steps down due to ill health the Leader of the Opposition should just leave the role vacant forever. I am very clever.
Ahem
Many prayers for my friend Ed Argar, whom I’ve known since before university, and whose wedding I took a few years ago. A good minister, but much more importantly a kind man.
As he prepares for his last parliamentary oral questions from the front bench, I want to put on record my sincere thanks to Ed Argar for serving in my Shadow Cabinet. I wish him the very best for a speedy recovery and return to full health, and so I will be making a few changes…
"We do not merely study the past, we inherit it, and inheritance brings with it not only the rights of ownership, but the duties of trusteeship. Things fought for and died for should not be idly squandered. For they are the property of others, who are not yet born"
Why do journalists always feign shock when people deny something that has not yet been announced, but will be in the near future? It's obvious that they're not going to bring a whole reshuffle forward by a week to please a journalist with good sources.
I was the first to break the story of today’s Conservative reshuffle on Wednesday lunchtime last week, live on @GBNEWS. It was denied to my face by her team. 👇
Among the help Israel has given the Druze after the horrendous massacre last week, was a shipment of morning after pills as so many women were raped.
God bless +Christopher, the @BishopSouthwark (and now the 'Bionic Bishop') who broke every bone in his face and had it completely reconstructed. You would honestly not know this had happened from looking at him. bbc.com/news/articles/…
🤞 And opera too? 🤞
FOOTBALL ON THE NHS 🤨⁉️ Live football is to be prescribed 𝙁𝙍𝙀𝙀 on the NHS as a treatment for depression… Doctors will direct patients to watch matches in the hope it boosts their mental health 🧠 The first team that people can get a prescription to see will be National…
The King has said “peace be upon you” in Arabic. It’s not the Shahada, it’s not an affirmation of Islamic doctrine.
He's broken his coronation vow to be Defender of the Faith. He's de facto abdicated. Long live King William V!

Last chance to get tickets for tomorrow's exciting book chat between @BijanOmrani and me on England today and how it has been formed by Christianity (and what this means for tomorrow).
📚Next Tuesday, meet @BijanOmrani at St Bart's as he comes to talk about his new book, 'God is an Englishman' and be quizzed by @WalkerMarcus on the past glory, present sadness, and future hope of Christianity in England. ✍️ Sign up here: greatstbarts.churchsuite.com/events/0sknyp94
