#OnThisDay in 1982 the IRA attempted to murder an off duty part-time reserve RUC policeman. He discovered a booby trap bomb under the cab of his coal lorry, at Castlewellan Rd, Dromara, Down. The bomb exploded a short time later & may have been triggered by 2 kittens playing #OTD
#OnThisDay in 1972 the IRA seriously injured & disabled for life Michael Vaughan Hughes, 18. King`s Regiment soldier on patrol, shot with 2 high velocity bullets at Black mountain, Ballymurphy, W Belfast & rendered a paraplegic with severe brain damage & reduced use of limbs #OTD
#OnThisDay in 1971 the IRA seriously injured Colin Wooten. Soldier in 3 Queen`s Reg shot in head by machine gun & brain damaged, early hrs #OTD @ New Lodge Road, Belfast. Private Wooten was later transferred to Herbert Memorial Hospital, Woolwich. He died 14/9/2012, age 60 years.

#OnThisDay in 1972 the IRA murdered Brian Thomas, 20. Soldier shot on sentry duty descending steps at Vere Foster school, West Belfast, 10:30 am. This observation post was regularly fired on. Kingsman Thomas was popular and described as “a small man with a big personality.” #OTD

#OnThisDay in 1974 the IRA murdered John Conley, 43. Married father of 3. UDR/Creamery worker. 300lb no warning bomb exploded at 3:45 am, Garvagh. Car spotted by locals. Town cleared but Cpl Conley was returning to an older person`s home who hadn’t responded. He died 6:45 am #OTD
