Today is considered the peak of the "dog days of summer." The dog days get their name based on astronomy. In ancient times, many cultures believed exceptionally hot weather was directly related to the appearance of Sirius - the "dog star." (1/2)
The Corn Belt is expected to be the most humid region in the country this week! A heat dome and corn sweat will cause dew points to surge into the low-to-mid 80s — even higher than Florida. The heat index could reach 115 degrees. Have you ever heard of sweating corn? 🌽
TORNADO STRENGTH: Four EF2 tornadoes have occurred in Wisconsin this year, compared to three by this time in 2024. Nearly half of the tornadoes in the state in 2025 have been EF0s. By this point last year, more tornadoes had occurred, and over half were EF1s. #wiwx

So far, the National Weather Service in Milwaukee has found evidence of four tornadoes in Wisconsin during yesterday's storms (July 16). That preliminary count ties for the 8th-largest July outbreak in the state. #wiwx

We currently have 10 areas that had rotation (dark blue) that we're looking for any information on. The main areas where we have video/pics are Dodgeville, Mazomanie, Beaver Dam and Hustisford. Any cross streets with damage is helpful. #wiwx

Smoke is moving out! Satellite imagery from 6 PM Sunday (July 13) vs 9 AM Monday (July 14) shows big improvements in smokiness across much of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.

If you were in Milwaukee 30 years ago, you remember this heat wave. Between July 12-15 of 1995, there were 85 heat-related deaths in Milwaukee County, 141 across Wisconsin. Heat is the number one cause of weather-related deaths in the country. #wiwx
