I'm thrilled to say I was recently promoted to become the director of @CatoInstitute's Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies. I wouldn't be here without the three directors who came before me. Here's what they, and the Center, mean to me. cato.org/blog/becoming-…

Today, Joshua M. Divine was sworn in by Chief Judge Clark as the Eastern District’s seventh active U.S. District Judge. Judge Divine served in a variety of roles in the public sector, most recently as the Solicitor General for the State of Missouri. moed.uscourts.gov/news/2025/hon-…

Age verification is going great, everyone. Glad we're normalizing uploading your ID and face scans everywhere. Customers and users don't know to check the age verifier. When you normalize the upload, you normalize breaches and hacks.
I've long recommended that Congress should fix the loophole that allows people to be appointed as deputies to a position solely for the purpose of allowing them to be immediately elevated to be acting officer. That's the scheme being used for Habba here. cato.org/commentary/tru…
Here's how it works: 1) Habba resigns as interim US attorney, ahead of a Friday deadline 2) Trump withdraws Habba's nomination to take the job permanently 3) AG Bondi appoints Habba First Assistant US attorney 4) Habba automatically becomes acting US attoreny bc of the vacancy.
Last fall, the editors of the Harvard Law Review invited me to write the Foreword for this year's Supreme Court issue. My working draft is below, and comments are most welcome. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

In The War On Words (out today!) Nadine Strossen & I break down today’s speech controversies—and explain how to stand up for expression without apology.
Harlow v Fitzgerald may be the best example of judicial tyranny, actually. Congress passes a law to secure Constitutional rights by holding state and local officials accountable for violating them. SCOTUS "amends" it by adding qualified immunity, largely gutting the law.
Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
Joining us is Cato Institute's Dominik Lett (@LettDominik) to discuss Congress and Trump administration's record on deficit reduction. WATCH: tinyurl.com/5n92dynf

Excellent post on the importance of reading, writing, and thinking for yourself, written by (not surprisingly) a graduate of my alma mater, @stjohnscollege.
It was my honor to give the keynote address at a dinner last week for the amazing @HudsonInstitute Political Studies Program. I warned the students that AI was first going to destroy them, and then America. AI and education seem topical this weekend, so I thought I'd just post my…
