For more than 30 years, CSL has been Bloomington's hub for grassroots transition to a sustainable future.
We are the ones who get to choose: desert world or garden world? We make this choice every day - there is no abstaining. Which one was it for you today? open.substack.com/pub/territorie…
The article points out it was the loss of the rainforests that seems to have been the tipping point that led to a million years or so of incredible heat. Once the plants died, there was no way for the earth to self-regulate. We desperately need to preserve the plant communities
North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC): Data centers are now 🚨"one of the greatest near-term reliability challenges"🚨 but modeling & forecasts aren't keeping up. Data centers should not be allowed to connect to the grid if they increase our risk of blackouts!
Excellent synopsis of the SMR nuclear mirage: "Here’s the final irony: despite all the headlines and billions in taxpayer subsidies, an SMR will never be built—not in time to matter, and not at a price that makes sense."
“We don’t need trains between US cities!” Meanwhile in Switzerland:
BREAKING🚨: A damning new analysis by @cacindiana exposes how in the past year, Indiana’s monopoly utilities have imposed the most severe electric bill increases on residential customers in *at least two decades*. The average bill increase was a shocking $28/month for 1,000 kWh.
"American cities were built for cars." Actually, they were built for transit first, and then destroyed for cars.
Our @KerwinOlson in @RichNye13 story on #nuclearenergy: "[#Nucleae is] simply is not viable in terms of the private market financing and insuring…Nuclear power requires significant subsidies from American taxpayers…” #FleecingOfAmerica ☢️ #energytwitter
The governor's administration believes small modular reactors in Indiana could help meet the growing demand for more electricity. wthr.com/article/news/l…

most ethical and eco-friendly AI data centers? preferably run by women and/or POC??
I think it’s pretty cool that almost every municipality in Norway now has “equipment libraries” where you can borrow gear for free — like footballs, tents, skis, bikes, helmets, kayaks, hammocks, etc.
This Sunday, @BloomingtonDSA, Care Not Cages, and @redbudbooks are cohosting a discussion of Jackie Wang’s Carceral Capitalism! At Redbud, 408 w Kirkwood.

Indiana's carbon capture and sequestration rules were approved last night after a very shady process that put the profits of industry over the health and safety of Hoosier families. 🧵
DOE's report, while flawed, does unintendedly highlight that we can completely resolve alleged grid reliability issues by just not quickly building huge numbers of wasteful plagiarism machines that boil the oceans, jack up power bill costs, and take billions of $$$ in subsidies.
If America doesn’t unleash more affordable, reliable, and secure American energy, U.S. grids could experience 100x more blackouts in just 5 years. The Trump Administration recognizes the time to act is now. foxbusiness.com/economy/trumps…
However you feel about Zohran, it's just so obvious he knows what he's talking about when it comes to transit and street space.
The 14th Street Busway has been a smashing success: faster commutes, fewer crashes, calmer streets. So why is Eric Adams blocking a similar plan for 34th Street?
Hoosiers are fighting back against energy-guzzling data centers that will raise their utility bills, lead to soaring pollution, and give billions in subsidies to Big Tech. “I’ve worked too hard in my life for some trillion-dollar company to ruin it,” said one resident.
>driving kids from Chicago to Petoskey for 4th >stuck in traffic on Kennedy expressway >tell them the interstates were built in the 1950s >explain interstates destroyed neighborhoods and led to depopulation of cities as people moved to burbs >"that’s sad..." >"are you…
Duke Energy Indiana is proposing special financial incentives for a "clean energy" project. The project? A massive polluting pair of gas plants that will emit as much pollution as its Cayuga coal plant--which Duke is now also saying could stay open. indystar.com/story/news/env…
Meta wants to build a massive energy-guzzling data center the size of Manhattan in Louisiana and have the utility raise other electric utility customers' bills to help pay for its costs. Will regulators prioritize affordability for families or more profits for Big Tech?
for the past year my (former) colleagues @BusinessInsider and i looked into the true costs of data center buildout across the country. bit by painstaking bit, we pieced together a database of permitted data centers & docs of water use + tax incentives. the series is rolling out🧵
Tonight at Redbud, let’s support imprisoned forest defender, Marius Mason.

Indiana is slashing state agency budgets as it ramps up lucrative handouts to trillion-dollar Big Tech companies. The Amazon data center campus in Indiana is expected to receive >$3.9 billion in sales tax exemptions subsidies and >$4 billion in local property tax abatements.
The Amazon data center campus coming to New Carlisle, IN could use as much electricity as 1.5 million households in Indiana -- that's more than half of all households in the state! Here's how I calculated this, and how you can do the same for data centers in your state 🤓🧵
