Streatham Wells LTN Watch
@StrWellsLTNEye
Observations and thoughts on the Streatham Wells Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) which began its trial on 23 Oct 2023. Posts by @angusjfrench.
Pre LTN estimated hourly traffic flows on weekdays from 4PM to 7PM. Note the purple sections within the LTN and on boundary roads. I have counted sometimes 300+ motor vehicles going through what was the Valley Road roundabout (at the jnct with Gleneldon Rd) in a 15-minute period.

New letter from TfL on Streatham Hill "Transformation" is starting to be delivered in SW2 side streets today. Suggests that TfL are now hoping for only one night closure on *Sunday 3rd/Monday 4th August* in advance of work starting to dismantle central reservation and planters.
Labour-run Lambeth in action.
Today is Full @lambeth_council and also marks 1,168 days since I was elected as Lambeth Councillor for #Streatham St. Leonard's ward. 1,168 days and I've still not been permitted to make my maiden speech or even ask a Councillor's Question to Cabinet. 🧵
Emergency repairs continue to fix the burst water main which caused a sinkhole on Kings Avenue. Water supplies should now be restored. But closures along Kings Avenue, Clapham High Street, Park Hill and Acre Lane mean traffic is still disrupted and buses are on diversion.
tfl.gov.uk/status-updates… Work on @TfL Streatham Hill Healthy Streets scheme commences Mon 21 Jul Lane restrictions on A23 in both directions as from Mon 4 Aug A23 to be closed in both directions between South Circular & Sternhold Ave between 22:00 Sun 3 Aug and 05:00 Mon 4 Aug
Lambeth Council finally agrees to refund drivers fined because of the unlawful West Dulwich LTN That could cost the council up to £1.5m but as of yet no one had taken responsibility for this monumental waste of taxpayers’ cash. Why not? @RezinaChowdhury
The Deputy Leader of Lambeth Council has been accused of lying to the High Court in the recent case over the West Dulwich LTN Rezina Chowdhury is now facing calls to resign
Ruby is the new (BBC funded) Local Democracy reporter covering Lambeth in place of @robjfirth
From next month I’ll be covering Southwark, Lewisham and Lambeth and their councils, meaning my time covering Tower Hamlets, Newham and Barking and Dagenham is coming to an end. Grateful to have covered such an amazing patch but I’m looking forward to covering South again!
Two "information sessions" being run by @TfL about 'A23 Streatham Hill Transformational Scheme' *TODAY* Tuesday 10th June 🕞3.30pm to 🕖7pm AND Thursday 12th June 🕜1.30pm to 🕔5pm Both sessions at St Margaret the Queen Church, Barcombe Avenue SW2 3BH tfl.gov.uk/travel-informa…
My story here Labour council ordered to remove ‘unlawful’ LTN in landmark case thetimes.com/article/16d79f…
We are delighted that the judge ruling on the outcome of the unlawful LTN is to have this quashed with immediate effect. There will be no more fines and it begs the question of what will be done with the £m+ fines already gathered. You can apply for refunds we suspect.
Very interesting survey by @SteveReedMP . Nearly 50% of people strongly oppose the Streatham Wells LTN (that had to be cancelled because of the traffic problems it caused on Streatham High Road) stevereedmp.co.uk/results-streat…

Humiliation for Lambeth Council today as judge rules it must: – Tear down the West Dulwich LTN which it implemented unlawfully by ignoring residents’ legitimate concerns – Pay campaigners' court costs (£35k) The judge also blocked Lambeth from appealing Full story incoming
The debate continues. We are calling for up to date impartial research to be carried out by a truly independent body not affiliated to any pro or anti LTN groups. Most research was carried out in 2020 which heavily skews data in favour of ltns. Let’s get a true picture in 2025.
And a shameless plug for my own piece saying much the same as @josephharker about the disastrous Streatham Wells LTN last year. Locals absolutely were 'mostly just ordinary people trying to go about their daily business whose life has been made miserable' tinyurl.com/mr43p4pv
'The first step would be to listen.' Sound advice for @lambeth_council @clairekholland @RezinaChowdhury theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Every single @lambeth_council councillor should read this. It sums up the miserable experience that many of us have endured thanks to their refusal to listen. Thank you @josephharker for articualting what many of us feel. Best thing I've read all year. tinyurl.com/9rnpve5f
Another in-depth piece: The London residents that fought back against LTNs – and won The basis of their argument: while the leafy interior streets of Dulwich are quieter, all the traffic has been pushed to the boundary roads at the edges of the LTN. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05/1…
