Interested in Grade K - 5 writing? I’m joining @alysonacollins and Steve Graham tomorrow to discuss a new comprehensive meta analysis of K -5 writing. We will discuss how to apply the findings to the classroom to support all writers #CEC2024

Thankful that @jillbarshay is staying on top of Department of Education updates.. Some helpful info in Jill’s reporting here in @hechingerreport
At #asugsvsummit @EDSecMcMahon said she is looking to revamp @IESResearch and "absolutely" keep @NAEP_NCES because states can manipulate their test scores. "Does NAEP need to get revised? I'm not a tech expert." Meanwhile, the chipping away has begun. hechingerreport.org/proof-points-n…

Looking forward to reading this interview that @jillbarshay had with Peggy Carr about the National Center for Education Statistics 📖 @hechingerreport ✏️
Ever since the former commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics was dismissed by the Trump administration in February, I wanted to hear her story. Peggy Carr was among a string of Black senior officials fired in early 2025. (1/3) hechingerreport.org/proof-points-p…
Thank you for sharing our research @MrZachG We have more data we will publish soon on how explicit and incidental writing instruction relate to writing achievement based on a 3 year in over 75 elementary schools 👀 😮
Researchers @StephenCiullo et al. found that teachers tend to rely on students picking up writing strategies implicitly rather than emphasizing explicit instruction. Important finding. Link next 👇

The #SpecialEducation community is mourning the loss of an inspirational leader. We are deeply grateful for Lynn Fuchs' contributions to improving teaching and learning. She will be missed. specialeducationtoday.com/p/lynn-s-fuchs…
👏 Some positive news for families of students with disabilities 👏 #Section504
Good news: The challenge to 504 protections by seventeen Attorneys General has been dropped. Outcry from parents and disability advocates was swift and unrelenting.
After 2 mos of confusion, @EDSecMcMahon just issued a press release confirming that the 2026 @NAEP_NCES is on schedule and she called the exam "critical" tool for assessing student preparedness. However, I am told that severe cuts to the assessment operation still loom. (1/4)
