That sounds so good. Meanwhile, today, I suffered through how to teach like a pirate as a two-hour keynote before decent breakout sessions.
It makes we wonder, “Whose interests are served by the current approach that fails to tap into the transformative power of education. Who prefers things as they are and why?”
I gotta agree with @ScientiaforBill on this one that teaching is blind is a massive overstatement. CLT provides a very clear and coherent theory that explains why explicit instruction is so effective. But Engellman did much of his work before CLT and he was far from blind.
As @janhasbrouck shares how she wasn’t taught how to teach, besides facilitating activities, I’m struck by how little has changed in 50 years

If I see one more elementary “research project” where the kids spend hours googling and copy pasting into a PowerPoint … which inevitably turns into boys collecting bawdy memes and the girls playing w color choices and fonts….

Schools start interventions all the time. If they care to do the interventions well, then they should think carefully about: 1. staff selection 2. staff training 3. ongoing coaching 4. staff AND program evaluation 5. admin support 6. systems interventions
