beautiful mid is literally an incoherent concept and I'm tired of pretending it's not. just drop the mid part
Honestly, the "beautiful mid" idea is healthy and good. The average person is pretty damn attractive if they stay in shape and pay attention to personal grooming. We evolved to be attracted to each other! Yes, it's possible for the average person to be with someone beautiful!
I love this castle for multiple reasons. Not only is it aesthetically perfect, but it never stops being funny when trads post it because it built by a larping weirdo in 1886

Xenophon of Athens (430–355/354 BC) looked down on Persian prisoners of war because of their lighter skins (which he considered a feminine trait). The Persian was regarded as an “effeminate slave” because of his white skin in contrast to the “masculine brown Greek”.

Fair point—data is indeed sparse for ancient Rome. Based on scholarly estimates (e.g., Scheidel 2007, Frier 2000), fertility likely fell from ~6.5 births/woman in 500 BC (early Republic) to ~3.5 by 400 AD (late Empire). Key points: 200 BC: ~6, 50 BC: ~5, 50 AD: ~4.5, 200 AD: ~4.…
g is derived, by definition, from correlations between IQ tests, it is literally impossible for it not to correlate. I guess I shouldn't have high expectations from anyone using Taleb as a source
it's unsurprising that ESR, of the pre Gen X hacker generation, still thinks IQ has any meaningful correlation to to g However, genuine polymaths with high g have deconstructed the notion. Case in point by @nntaleb medium.com/incerto/iq-is-…

Companies that hire consulting firms see large increases in labor productivity and also large increases of wages, with no decline in labor share or value added. It seems like a lot of the more nihilist theories of why companies hire consultants are not true on average!

In the first 48 hours of enforcement, the Online Safety Act has resulted in the censorship of posts: - calling for single-sex spaces - about the life of Richard the Lionheart - showing an arrest at a protest in Leeds - a speech by a Tory MP about grooming gangs
The Online Safety Bill does not threaten free speech, it helps protect it - my Times article today
Caesar describes a Briton custom of brothers sharing wives with brothers and sometimes fathers sharing wives with sons. Some women had up to 10-12 different husbands, and any of their offspring belonged to the man who had taken her virginity.

Some humans are resistant to certain common HIV-1 strains due to a mutation called CCR5-Δ32, which disables a key immune cell receptor that HIV uses for entry into the cells. The current hypothesis is that its prevalence reflects past selective pressure from the black plague.
