Much like federal effort, this state effort to facilitate "self deportation" is framed as if it's helping immigrants do the "right" thing so they can come back in the future. As @Anna_Giaritelli points out, that is wildly misleading. It's likely most will be barred for 10 years.

Our report cataloging the 472 changes the Trump admin made to immigration policy (+39 that were left pending when he left office) is finally out: migrationpolicy.org/research/four-… It's a hefty one! Here's hoping it serves as a useful reference for anyone working on these issues
"The facts are this individual is an illegal alien." This is a sobering message from DHS for any DACA recipients.
I wrote the government this week, asking why Javier had been arrested. A senior DHS official said in an email, “Deferred action does not confer any form of legal status in this country.”
🚨 On June 13, ICE arrested Javier Diaz Santana, a DACA recipient granted protection to legally work and live in the U.S. Javier, 32, is deaf and uses sign language to communicate. ICE held him for 25 days and released him with an ankle monitor. latimes.com/california/sto…

*personal news* Last week I started in @USCIS's Office of Policy & Strategy. I'm thrilled to be here. Working @HSGAC was hugely educational & I am so grateful for my time in the Senate. I am in awe of the brilliant work happening there (& maybe moreso the tragedies prevented).
It took 1,035 footnotes and 145 pages, but @jessicabolter @emmarisrael & @SarahPierceEsq (during her time at MPI) were able, in a tour de force report, to distill the 472 immigration actions taken by the Trump administration during its four years migrationpolicy.org/research/four-…
I know I’m one among many, many young (ish) professionals who was influenced & supported by Demetri. The man was a legend & still went out of his way to be supportive of the next generation of thinkers. We didn’t just stand on his shoulders— he lifted us up there.
It is with deep sadness that we share word of the loss and celebrate the remarkable legacy of Dr. Demetrios G. Papademetriou, president emeritus and co-founder of @MigrationPolicy, and founding president of @MPI_Europe migrationpolicy.org/news/mpi-honor…
Some personal news...tomorrow I will be starting @HSGAC as Senior Counsel on immigration & the border. I'm thrilled and honored, but it is bittersweet to be leaving my brilliant and kind colleagues @MigrationPolicy. That was a wonderful (nearly) seven years.
Biden's administration has taken 94 immigration actions in its first 100 days, Muz Chishti & I find. migrationpolicy.org/article/biden-… This is more than triple the pace of the Trump administration's first 100 days.
There has been some confusion over how the administration is treating families who cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. New data from CBP show that in most parts of the border, the majority of families encountered are being expelled. Exceptions are RGV, Yuma, & El Centro.
