The return to MX & Central American arrivals started during the Biden admin but increased under the Trump admin. Because larger shares of migrants are from these countries with US repatriation agreements, it is easier to deport them quickly compared to other nationalities.
A record low number of migrants came to the US-Mexico border in June, dating back to 1960s levels. But it's equally as notable that Mexicans & Central Americans again represent the vast majority of arrivals--as they did prior to 2022. More @MigrationPolicy takeaways here⬇️
Once again, @CBP's monthly border arrivals update did not include the total number of people deported from US, as it used to up to January 2025 DHS' statistics office also has not updated its deportation stats since 1/16/25
