Former Independent Councillor for Queen Edith's, Cambridge City Council. How about we ...? Community, transport, planning in Cambridge & beyond.

But if you routinely ignored the industrial scale abuse of thousands of children by grooming gangs, and indeed suggested anyone who raised it was racist, and spent ages opposing a national inquiry into the scandal you're...what exactly?
If you want to overturn the Online Safety Act you are on the side of predators. It is as simple as that.
This sort of thing is why people don’t trust or like politicians. Does Peter Kyle really think the founder of Wikipedia is “on the side of Jimmy Savile?” There’s serious criticisms of the law and arguing everyone opposed is a paedo is disgraceful.

Build quality at the flagship CB1 development holding up just as well as the flagship Fendon Rd roundabout project. Have we lost the ability to specify and build roads?

Really strong article asking all the right questions, and applicable well beyond Peterborough
The Poverty of Aspiration: Why the ‘D’ Word Matters Now More Than Ever The question remains as urgent – and as uncomfortable – as ever: has Peterborough overcome its poverty of aspiration, or have we simply learned to live with it? Read the full story here:…

When is the sedum roof being installed to the main building as per the approved drawings?
Any local journalist must know this is smoke & mirrors. The new water sources cited were never intended to meet the additional growth now envisaged. Don't just blindly reprint this nonsense like it's relevant to the Growth Company's ambitions. See @markrwilliamson for facts

Are Private Eye jokes now... criminal? PALESTINE Solidarity campaigner Jon Farley was arrested, bundled into a van and taken to the cells during a silent march in Leeds last weekend. What egregious act had prompted the police to act? He was, er, carrying a Private Eye joke piece…
"£104bn of water industry investment will come from bill payers, environment secretary concedes." And there we finally have it, there is no "£104 billion of private sector investment". Question is how long has the SoS known this and why has he kept repeating that myth? Well…
I’d like to know exactly what they’re trying to learn from this trial period that they haven’t already had the opportunity to learn from the last 5 years. It seems like a success to me and no amount of additional trialling will tell them what to do about illegal scooting.
Fair to say they aren’t popular with everyone in Cambridge. In terms of safety it must be possible to get data from @CUH_NHS about the number of cases involving e-scooters since 2020? If it’s not being collected begs question how is thw trial being assessed?
The biggest gripe of my elderly and disabled aunt who lives on Mill Rd (Ditchburn Place): e-scooters. Both the way they are frequently ridden and the way they are left on the pavement.
Six years on from @CambsCC declaring a "Climate Emergency" and more than 2 years since the @CambsPboroCA EV Infrastructure Strategy was published, and still no sign of the Cross Pavement Charging Channel trial to allow home charging for all those people who don't have a drive.

To put a figure on it: In June river flow for the Ely Ouse was just 15% of the long-term average.
The Ely Ouse has exceptionally low flows at the moment...wonder how much of its water is currently being sent down to Essex? Cambridgeshire has a chronic water shortage that already impacts both existing customers and future development, yet water gets diverted down to Essex.
There are currently 3 sets of roadworks in the village. All 3 are for water leaks.
Drove down Bury Lane heading toward Sutton Gault on Monday and water was pouring from a burst pipe. The burst was at the site of a previous "repair". There was enough water pooling on the road to have kept my entire garden watered all summer. I did consider fetching the bowser...

I've never seen such mad flailing around. Blown about by every prevailing wind despite having a colossal majority, in possession of no underlying principles, philosophy or even vague idea of what the hell they are meant to be doing. What is the point of this government?
“environmental benefits are more likely to come from strategies which increase nature connectedness than strategies which increase nature visits”
Previous research has focussed on nature exposures, nature connection & outcomes of wellbeing & environmentalism in isolation. Our recent work unites these, supporting previous results, but demonstrating compensatory & synergistic relationships: findingnature.org.uk/2025/05/14/som…
