How embarrassing can it possible be to say you are going to cut sewage dumping by 50% by 2030 only to realise that announcement had already been made by Ofwat over 1 year ago and that your new target is actually worse than the old one. OOPS!!!
"Government keeping under review possibility that new town homes contribute to councils’ local housing need, Pennycook reveals" That would certainly make common sense👍 Why would councils support new towns otherwise? planningresource.co.uk/article/192617…
Must read by the very sharp @horton_official giving yet more evidence of this being most hostile government to nature in my 50+ years experience.
Interviewed @CHinchliffMP about how he was treated by Starmer’s team after he campaigned for nature, what he’s doing next; and if he is a “knobhead” 🕷 🦇 🦎 theguardian.com/environment/20…
Thanks to @DonnyFreePress @hharrisonjourno for covering issues with @millerhomesuk not following agreed construction plans at RoseHill. The failure of @MyDoncaster to respond to the story or take action to help residents speaks volumes. @CommunityPlann1 doncasterfreepress.co.uk/news/people/ro…
The change in the "target" shows how deficient the whole methodology is. At the stroke of a pen it can change. More are being permitted because developers don't want to build out ones with planning permission. It's a game. Developers 6 - Government 0.
“What happens if you build more housing, and institutional investors are buying up 20% of the new stock?” Ocampo said. “It’s like a never-ending cycle.” theguardian.com/us-news/2025/j…

"Many people were disappointed that @CHinchliffMP was punished for standing up for nature." Interview by @horton_official. We were! dhttps://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jul/25/its-all-a-game-to-some-politicians-says-former-labour-mp-suspended-for-planning-rebellion
🚩Govt. admits concessions to Pt 3 of the Planning Bill are tokenistic and a 'tactical retreat' to speed the Bill up through the Lords. The amends don't help nature. Killing snails won't make mortgages any more affordable for homebuyers. Reeves presents a false dichotomy here
As a birdwatcher, I know firsthand how Biodiversity Net Gain helps wildlife thrive. Protecting it means a richer, wilder UK for us all. 🌱 #naturematters
By "undervaluing" #nature we are both harming the #environment & eroding our #economic #resilience. #FairerPlanning
Why nature must be made visible in decision making greenallianceblog.org.uk/2025/07/24/why…
Ummm, so you can replace irreplaceable habitats - how? Isn't that a contradiction in terms!
🚩Government's proposed concessions to the Planning Bill don't protect irreplaceable habitats. The Bill *assumes* that replacement habitats are successfully delivered. Here, Barry Gardiner MP interrogates Matthew Pennycook on this:
Test Valley's target has risen from 521 a year to 934. It means the council is currently unable to provide a five-year supply of homes. So homes in the countryside, outside the Local Plan, will need to be permitted. hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/25336009.…

Our Guest Blog is by Professor of Planning at Reading @ParkerGPD and colleague Dr Mark Dobson. The government is preaching community involvement but then doing the opposite 🤔. "Something isn’t adding up somehow." communityplanningalliance.org/cpa-blog

When we build, we should build back nature too. That’s what Biodiversity Net Gain is designed to do - don’t let the UK Government weaken it 👇 action.rspb.org.uk/page/174378/ac…
Because most of these new homes will be unaffordable to most people..especially the younger generation..and even “affordable” is 80% of current market value,..then it’ll be investors buying up housing stock to rent out .. housing crisis not solved 🤷🏻♀️
I'm calling on the UK Government to stop the proposed changes to Biodiversity Net Gain, which put nature recovery at risk just as the system starts to work. Nature needs time to thrive, not more setbacks. action.rspb.org.uk/page/174378/ac…
Labour’s new towns ‘threaten local democracy’. Demos, a cross-party think tank, said the proposals risked a “democratic deficit where decision-makers are not directly accountable to the local population, and aren’t subject to the same level of scrutiny that residents expect from…
This is a great summary from @RSBenwell of why Bat-bashing is divisive and unhelpful. 👇 And it won't solve the housing crisis, which is about affordability. Bats, newts, spiders, snails are all innocent bystanders and are not to blame.
Part of the reason the #PlanningBill faced such a hard time in Parliament is because of inaccurate & divisive bat-bashing by senior ministers. Government amendments improve the bill; this kind of rhetoric does not. Housing & nature need not be at odds. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
