Seriously sobering reading. But not a surprise to anyone in retail or hospitality. Hospitality and retail jobs plummet since Rachel Reeves’s budget thetimes.com/article/bc481e… @UKHofficial @UKHospKate @allen_m_simpson
We’re proud to support @UKHofficial’s #TaxedOut campaign @gustopronto. Hospitality is being taxed out of growth and the Government must change course in the Budget.

100% this ⬇️. This is the crux of why hospitality is in such a perilous place post-covid. 40p+ of every pound we generate from customers goes to treasury.
In the decade post the financial crash hospitality generated 1 in 5 new jobs - 1 in 3 for young people - and invested £10bn pa in our high streets. The tax burden then stood at a 30% of turnover, it’s now over 40% and rising - that’s unsustainable
Our letter sets out the urgent need for action at the Budget to reverse this - fix NICs, maximum discount on business rates and cut VAT to get hospitality back to its positive record of generating jobs, growth and investment on our high streets and in our communities
We’ve written to the PM about the stark reality of tax increases on hospitality. Last month’s survey showed the effect on business with a third operating at a loss and this is the reality for workers with hours and jobs slashed - we are being #TaxedOut thetimes.com/business-money…
Bigger contraction than forecasters were expecting following awful April and driven by drop in hospitality. The last 6 months have shown that the economy only grows when hospitality is strong - ministers need to deliver plan for recovery and growth
GDP fell 0.3% in April 2025. Services (-0.4%) and production (-0.6%) both shrank but construction (+0.9) grew. Read more ➡ ons.gov.uk/economy/grossd…

Hospitality is hit with £3.4bn of additional annual cost this month, which will hit jobs, investment and prices. We urgently need a Gov't plan for hospitality that enables the sector to unlock growth and jobs, and includes reducing costs and red tape. ukhospitality.org.uk/annual-cost-in…
