Having a baby this morning. Prayers appreciated.
BCE and CE are highly subversive Don’t trust anyone using the new speak
Start book. Uses BCE instead of BC. Throw in trash.
“Here they come to snuff the rooster, ah yeah-yeah Yeah, here come the rooster, yeah You know he ain't gonna die No, no, you know he ain't gonna die…” Rooster Alice in Chains
Diogenes was operating on a level we can't even begin to understand
There was a darkly funny video I saw on YouTube once where a thinker correctly reasons to the conclusion that suffering and death are unnatural, almost as if the world were fallen - then abruptly leaps to the follow up thought "therefore, maximum reddit transhumanism is the way"
All of humanity shares a yearning for higher things. Those who seek after AI and the Singularity for transcendent answers are longing for a fundamentally religious experience—they sense that there is more to life than simple materialism, and, having rejected Truth, they still…
Some important and valuable thoughts from Mr. Kirn below. I think both of these statements are true: A) We can only play with the Lego blocks God has granted us, and ultimately this sets limits around what is possible in art and also creates the web of interlocking…
I know the tech folks would like you to believe that all art is just other art chopped up and blended and recombined but that's not what the artists believe. Not now and not ever They believe art comes from beyond Maybe they know more abt this than Stanford engineering majors
I do this with any text. Life is short.
Start book. Uses BCE instead of BC. Throw in trash.
There was once a man who was shot 9 times (at once) in WWII. He was a binge drunk who came to Christ in middle age. Became a preacher, planted many congregations in the American West. Later, as an Elder in that church, he was pulled over by the cops going 100mph down the wrong…
you cannot begin your esoteric slightly schizo health journey until you know both a person who is obsessed with health but is annoyingly constantly ill, and someone who treats their body like a liquor store and drug dumpster but for some reason simply refuses to die.
In your charity, remember Dan, his wife, and their child in prayer today!
Having a baby this morning. Prayers appreciated.
Society should never have decided most Anglo-Saxon names were lame. Egbert is Old English for “blade-bright” (ecgberht), it was borne by warriors and kings. Mildred meant “kind strength” (mildþryþ). We need to revive Old English so people can appreciate the names.
Monsieur LaPoint gets it:
The purpose of art is to give a glimpse of wisdom. Does A Princess of Mars do this? Yes indeed. Does it also entertain? Yes, very much so. It accomplishes both, meaning it is successful, good art.
So many people are saying things like this. It’s disgusting. Of course an author needs to make money and ought to entertain their audience, but I had no idea how many people on the Right despise art’s relation to the transcendent. Deconstructionism is not just on the Left.
I will enjoy pondering this observation, as anecdotally it holds true in my experience. I come from an extended family of avid readers, and in all cases the basic point you make here holds true. Left-leaning family will only read works that overtly support and align with their…
The responses to Andrew's post are very interesting. Left-leaning people tend to want modern moralizing at the expense of the story. Right-leaning people apparently don't want stories to mean anything!
Sci-fi’s essential purpose is warning. Fantasy’s essential purpose is reminding.
Gene Wolfe's handy guide to Speculative Fiction genres: Science Fiction: "fiction that turns upon the assumption of at least one breakthrough in one of the ‘hard’ sciences." Speculative Fiction: "stories in which one or more changes are assumed in the ‘soft’ sciences."
Prayer request: hospital sent my dad to rehab on Friday, and rehab sent him back to hospital on Sat for severe hip pain. MRI showed a fluid pocket which is just an bad bruise under the muscle. Yesterday he was feeling good, but now this AM he can feel but can't move his legs.
I’m glad to announce a decision that was made by Eternal Christendom’s Board several months ago, but seemed good to make public: we are under priestly authority. Here is our statement on our website: “Eternal Christendom is under the priestly authority of an FSSP pastor who is…
I showed this hymn to my wife and she asked “is this sung to the tune of The Safety Dance?”
I think this is the worst hymn ever written
