If you follow @JohnsHopkins, you know that university research is about more than data—it’s about people. Research saves lives by bringing new treatments, cures, and hope to families everywhere. From transformative medical breakthroughs to innovations that shape tomorrow, the…
Beyond happy to share the most exciting findings of my PhD research in the @stark_lab. 🤩 tinyurl.com/k6rbxjwn Our genome-wide silencer screen revealed that silencers are different from your typical regulatory DNA element. Find out more below 👇 (1/9)
Check out our paper in this month's issue of RNA! We found that the translation elongation inhibitor emetine stabilizes hundreds of mRNAs many of which encode C2H2 zinc fingers! rnajournal.cshlp.org/content/30/12/…
Double whammy! 🧬 Our latest collaboration with the Zaher/Beckmann/Inada labs reveals how Mbf1/EDF1 senses ribosome collisions to promote Gcn2 activation, allowing optimal induction of eIF2α phosphorylation and de-repression of GCN4 translation. cell.com/molecular-cell…
Excited to share our unexpected finding: piRNA pathway designed to protect the genome from invading nucleic acids created a population of selfish small RNAs that have perpetuated themselves for the past hundred million years of mammalian evolution. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Sometimes single-minded dedication to a problem is the path to great science. I’ve never met someone more focused on a problem than David Baker. Among the postdocs at UCSF in the early ‘90s, none of us would have been surprised to learn there was a Nobel Prize in David’s future.
Unbelievably well deserved!!!! The question of how protein sequence defines protein structure was fundamental. David's insights transformed the field and allowed the Deepmind group to develop powerful computational approaches that cracked the problem 1/3
BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”
UMass Chan Medical School researcher Victor R. Ambros, PhD, arrives on the @UMassChan campus with his wife, Rosalind "Candy" Lee, after learning he is sharing the 2024 @NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine. WATCH news conference at 10 a.m. EST: direc.to/mmGC #NobelPrize
