5 days since 25 Curlews released & having flown off strongly the majority returned to the Haymeadow near their pens that day, since then they’ve steadily been moving to the salting, joining the increase flock of wild curlews. JK has buddied up with an unringed Curlew & Whimbrel
Wonderful start to the day with the release of 25/ 32 Head Start Curlew recovery project #Curlews. It took them a few moments to realise the roof netting was gone before taking flight, circling the meadow & heading towards The Swale salting. #conservation @KentishPlover 1/2

I’m a bit of a fan of ‘mature’ Bird books, so bought this recently. Love the plates & the text seems to add a bit more descriptive depth than modern ‘clean cut’ Bird ID guides. The late Donald Watson’s a fine artist and the author of the best monograph study of the Hen Harrier.👌🏻

A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27: “It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young. At 26, I thought I had time… To fall in love. Start a family. Grow old. But cancer doesn’t care about plans.…
Dare I go out for a third afternoon in a row in an attempt to get Great Northern Diver footage when this is the best I've got so far? It does show quite well how iridescent green the base of their necks is.
Amazing views of the long-staying Black-winged Pratincole last week as it hawked for insects at Brow Marsh and over the home patch of Hillwell here in Shetland. A lovely bird to get on the house list 🙂
Cromerty Firth, Scotland - an Oil Rig storage area for 50+ years. There’s something stately but stark about them at this evening’s dusk.

Good Morning…a bit of ‘calm ambience’ in nature’s monochrome, coming to you from Cromarty, Black Isle, Scotland. 🙂😌 #seascapephotography @cromarty
🌿 Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) means developers must leave nature better than they found it. Now @GOVUK wants to drop this rule for small sites- that could mean big losses for wildlife. 🦋 Small green spaces matter. 📣 Say no to weaker protections. wtru.st/4lqxG7w
