Two minutes of aerial footage from what was an incredible all-day encounter with the 27s #Orca pod here in #Shetland last week. Wonderful to watch, film and photograph. @Seasaver @TheOrcaProject @Britnatureguide @kasmunro @whalesorg @PromoteShetland @kazcustard @BDMLROrcaAware
Decent moth trapping conditions here in Shetland of late. Always good to see a Snout in the trap - named by virtue of its very long upturned palps - or - yes, you guessed it, a 'snout'...

Slo-mo Orcas: two minutes from our magical day spent following the '65s' pod - including adult bull 'Busta' - as they headed south along the coast from Gulberwick to Sumburgh Head, Shetland this week. @Seasaver @whalesorg @kasmunro @Britnatureguide @NLFerries @Mammal_Society…
Jersey Tiger Moths sitting out the summer heat on a shady tree 🌳 Sensible.
Lovely encounter with a nursery pod of Risso's Dolphins off Levenwick and Clumlie, Shetland yesterday. Check out some of those tiny calves! @ShetlandWild @nicola_hodgins @whalesorg @seasaver @Britnatureguide @kazcustard @SeaWatchersUK @NLFerries @mcsuk @cathgem2000
Lovely views today of Risso's Dolphins with calves - some only a few days old - off Levenwick, Shetland. Absolutely wonderful to see! Note the extensive scarring on the mothers - on most individuals this is generally conspecific and, like saddle markings on Orcas, form the…

It's not just the weather Gods shining on us at the moment - the Orca Gods are too! An amazing morning for our @ShetlandWild 'Walk Shetland' group as we watched the '65s' pod - and the huge bull 'Busta' - close inshore off Gulberwick and Easter Quarff and points south to…

Amazing views of the long-staying Black-winged Pratincole last week as it hawked for insects at Brow Marsh and over the home patch of Hillwell here in Shetland. A lovely bird to get on the house list 🙂

ORCAS!!! Last week we witnessed this amazing scene as we watched the '65s' Orcas hunting right beneath us as we stood on the cliffs at Kirkabister in the east Mainland, Shetland. Incredible! @Seasaver @whalesorg @kasmunro @Britnatureguide @NLFerries @Mammal_Society @mcsuk…
A few pics from our 5 - 12 July 2025 'Ultimate Shetland' tour with Orcas as one of the highlights. shetlandwildlife.co.uk/holidays/wildl…
The ‘Guga Hunt’ is horrible, a vile act of meaningless slaughter, dressed up in the fallacious language of religion and tradition.
❗BREAKING❗️ @scotgov's nature agency, Nature Scot, has approved the killing of up to 500 baby gannets on Sula Sgeir off Lewis, expected to take place in August. “The guga hunt is a grisly story from history that should be left in books or a museum." - Jason Rose, OneKind. 1/2
Sheep are destroying precious British habitats – and we taxpayers are footing the bill to the tune of millions in a climate and biodiversity emergency - it’s bad and bonkers ! @WildJustice_org theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
A short video of Shetland's first-ever Greater Sand Plover at Haroldswick, Unst last week. @RareBirdAlertUK @ScottishBirding @waderquest @NLFerries @Britnatureguide @ShetlandWild
We are currently enjoying a lovely spell of weather here in Shetland with amazing days and spectacular long evenings. This was the scene looking north west from above Mossy Hill to St. Ninian's Isle and the west Mainland, with Foula off in the distance at around 10.30pm last…

Slo-mo ORCAS filmed off the east Mainland of Shetland this week. Enjoying life as nature intended - in the ocean and not in a swimming pool. @Seasaver @whalesorg @kasmunro @Britnatureguide @NLFerries @Mammal_Society @mcsuk @cathgem2000 @sharontrys @NatureScot @marcrileydj
A beautiful Bedstraw Hawk-moth in the MV trap here at Hillwell, Shetland this week. With south easterly winds heading our way, hopefully a few more migrants over the next few evenings.

Fabulous views of Shetland's first-ever Greater Sand Plover at Haroldswick, Unst early this morning. Just over 20 UK records of this species which breeds from Turkey east to Mongolia. I last saw one in the UK back in 1988 at Dawlish, Devon! 😮
