No energy source in history has scaled faster than U.S. shale gas

See the natural gas power plans on site?
It's official: we're developing 4.5 gigawatts of additional Stargate data center capacity with Oracle in the U.S (for a total of 5+ GWs!). And our Stargate I site in Abilene, TX is starting to come online to power our next-generation AI research. openai.com/index/stargate…
In recent years energy efficiency programs have been transformed to promote electrification, which often leads to higher consumer costs and more energy consumption. This has set us back. True energy efficiency is fuel-neutral and actually reduces costs and energy consumption.
The capacity auction at PJM Interconnection — the biggest US grid — are out: $329.17 per megawatt-day, a 22% increase from the previous year (and a ~300% increase from the 2023-2007 average). PJM serves ~67 million people across 13 states. Statement: insidelines.pjm.com/pjm-auction-pr…
Chinese solar additions in June fell 85%. New capacity additions surged in April and May as developers rushed projects into place ahead of new rules that would reduce solar subsidies and shift solar to a market pricing system starting June 1.

In the aftermath of the Spanish blackout, many observers insisted that the cause wasn't renewables but poor grid management during high renewables. Grid managers' response has been more natural gas.

This may prove correct. Another driver will be if and when its faster to get a pipeline and onsite generator installed before a grid interconnection. Data centers and other large loads can then flex that gas generation onto the grid, if the right incentives are in place.
This is not sustainable. I predict instead DCs will build their own cheaper, more reliable power plants, utilities will then purchase access to them on terms favorable to the DC operators. Why? The net present economic value of the marginal MWh is far far higher for AI…
There are always a flood of posts about what AI can or cannot do, so it is worth pausing and paying attention to this one. It is a very hard test, done without tools. It was also viewed as an unlikely goal. Prediction markets had the chance of this happening this year as 20%
1/N I’m excited to share that our latest @OpenAI experimental reasoning LLM has achieved a longstanding grand challenge in AI: gold medal-level performance on the world’s most prestigious math competition—the International Math Olympiad (IMO).
Enough with the single dimension China vs US power generation graphs. China's per capita power generation is 8,600kWh versus the US's 12,900 kWh. - The US generates 3-4 times more economic value per unit of electricity US: $6.2/W vs China: $1.8/W Re carbon intensity: The US…
China produces more electricity than the US (tho about 1/2 as much per capita). The US creates 3-4x the economic value per unit of electricity.
