Great exercise to make athletes more comfortable interacting with the ground (such as mat returns for wrestlers) and general contact prep
There is a tremendous amount of variability in human movement, but we can sift through the noise when we understand the laws that govern it

When balance is lost, athletes must find angles of force application through the repositioning of their feet that will result in the line of action of the force to be aligned relative to the COM in a way that will increase balance.

Unbalanced forces must be applied to cause movement. However, these unbalanced forces need to be applied from balanced positions. When athletes apply a force from an unbalanced position, then unbalanced outside forces are better positioned to influence the movement of the COM in…

You can train in a sports specific manner while doing things that don't look like the sport - if impact levels, velocities, power outputs, tissue loads, are competition-like, it's sports specific. If sportlike training movements don't achieve this, you're not prepared.

So proud of you @SG3Baseball!
Congrats @SG3Baseball on being named the NJ Player of the year by @HSSportsNJ ! Our entire @Delbarton community is proud of you! We are excited to get back to work for next spring #delbartonbaseball #playfast @DelbartonSports @JSZ_Sports
Sounds a lot like what @Tony_Villani_ teaches! I also love how he talks about the strategy change for big guys and how more braking steps are needed to control their momentum (MASS X velocity)
MUST-WATCH: #Chiefs legendary TE Travis Kelce teaching the tight ends at TE University, and it’s incredible to watch. ‼️‼️‼️ Great advice and teaching from Kelce.
The best way to determine if an athlete is ready for their sport is not to have a single day of testing. It is to take athletes through a robust rehab and training program that systematically prepares them for the stresses of their sport.
All of the elite athletes I know eat ice cream, pizza, candy, and have an occasional beer. All of the mediocre athletes who are big on social media: lose their minds at the thought of some of those things. This holds beyond nutrition. Build robustness, not fragility.
This is an awesome way to think about the eccentric action in plyos
Thinking in Stretch Shortening Cycles gave me and other coaches a framework for jumps & med balls. A simple starting point is to consider how to apply extensively & intensively. Shocks: absorb & manage eccentric forces Springs: potentials force so the next action is better
Great advice here! How we talk to other practitioners isn't how we need to talk to or cue our athletes.
How much time should you actually spend coaching sprint mechanics for non-track athletes? This is a question I get all the time and it’s a good one, because it forces coaches to confront how they use their time. Sprinting is one of the most powerful training tools we have.

I still stand by this!

If your youth wrestling coach is cursing at your athletes, you need to find a new room. I just spent a few days at Oklahoma State, one of the most talented rooms in college wrestling. I didn’t hear a single curse word delivered by leadership during practice. The best coaches…
