Athletic strength is more than just the weight on the barbell. We need to see strength training in; - lifting weights - throwing med balls - jumping / landing - sprinting - agility / change of direction - collision - isometrics Expand your perspective, help your athletes.
❤️ that Scott is making ECC variables visible. But, I don’t have an outlook based on #s For any exercise I need a ❇️Purpose (developing MaxF, RFD, RSI, ECC overload) ✳️Intent (move/drop as fast as possible, move bigger/shorter, etc..) ✅Effort (did they try) Then I use #
Enhanced VBT. What may be missing and considerations to improve your application🧵 ⚠️Conventional VBT interpretation would classify Rep 1 as the 'best' as it reported the highest Pk & AVG V. That's the miss. Look at the Velocity Sequence visual, I slow-rolled the eccentric…
Training to upgrade human performance across lifespan? Basics 1. Stay strong by lifting heavy things 2. Struggle & sweat with hi &lo conditioning Should be basics Be bouncy 🎾 Keeping a variety of skips, jump rope, and extensive ballistics does wonders for tissue pliability
Please say it louder! Watching SoCal hockey it boggles my mind. Very little work on skating skills or building speed and agility on the ice. Weak and young players will gain from basic training, but they are missing out on the long term. Such a missed opportunity.
Love this. Have said it a thousand times before. If you’re not on the ice working on your speed, don’t expect to get faster.

Too many coaches still miss this. In this clip, Cooper Kupp says two simple but critical things 1. To get fast, you have to sprint fast. 2. Strength and conditioning exist to support skill, but skill matters most! That understanding is still lost on most. When it comes to
I ended up in a path that led me to coach elite athletes in lots of different sports and countries. This has absolutely helped me master my craft. Strength coaches who stay in 1 sport have to make a massive conscious effort to gain perspective. Are you getting it?
Love this example of leadership and expertise. Constructive curiosity to ideas they doubt. Need to help make this more common.
vLamax: I took on the role of skeptical but constructive outsider on this excellent team as we tried to unpack the black box and explain both the opportunities and pitfalls of the construct and the method. I learned a lot and perhaps you will too: rdcu.be/exCmh
It’s a double edge sword ⚔️ of need and risk. Eccentric actions; - majority acute injuries occur - where the stress in overuse injuries occur - big contributor to DOMS Also key for performance; - better COD - better limb decel - better SSC Master the eccentric to be better
VBT devices are tools to let you apply whatever strength methods you like. If your goal is building max strength methods, avg con Velo is a good tool. I also use other methods where other ECC & CON metrics apply better Tools aren’t methods Tool inform methods
No I don’t think it’s because of mainstream adoption. I’m not sure it’s used that way by the majority. Very strong linear relation with %1rm = great metric It allows use of established training method with ⬆️ precision whether thats the right thing to train is a different ❓
PSA: the force velocity curve has to sides to the velocity axis. Don’t forget the eccentric side! Eccentric “strength” is not one thing. It’s; Max force Rfd Impulse Power This can give you a new perspective and change your approach to performance, prevention & rehab.

Simple: if someone starts with saying a generic they as in; “They say…” “They don’t want you to know” “They are making you…” Stop listening. 🙉 They only counts when it’s specific.
Here’s what come back to everyone a “guru” has the 1 thing you need to be better or fix and injury problem. And they usually have an online program or course to buy. Human functional is complex and sports is VUCA. No magic bullets.
Human performance is a complex interaction of 🎛️ systems: neuromuscular, cardiovascular, endocrine… 🧠 mindset, perception & emotion ⛰️environment ☑️ task demands So ignore the interactions at your own risk. Acknowledge it! Single “magic bullet” solutions rarely work.
I’ve been a surgeon for over 30 years… There are many lessons that I’ve learned: Rehab works… more often than you think. Surgery Helps Less Than You Think—But Rehab Helps More After three decades in the operating room, I’ve come to a surprising conclusion—one I wish more…
Your car needs a mechanic, searching social media you find“The Hammer Guy” He has great videos, says smart sounding stuff. At his shop, you see only hammers. He explains all of the Russian literature. He tells you everyone using screwdrivers is wrong. …see the parallels?
“flow” makes me picture smooth transitions between movement patterns or vectors. Between eccentric>concentric (SSC). My experience has been that athletes that can absorb/yield smoother have differences in both coordination of eccentric movement and in tissue elasticity.
One part of movement I think a lot more about these days is FLOW None of the worlds best are clunky, robotic or jerky in how they move
PSA: remember you’re coaching humans. Had pleasure of hanging out with one of my former Olympic athletes. Didn’t talk about exercises, sets, reps. Talked about hi’s and lows, the emotions, the growth and all the human things. Being a mentor, teacher and leader is coaching.
Tell me where you are at on the Dunning-Kruger curve with theory but minimal real world experience: Since they read Verkhoshanky, they had the whole team of athletes with different strength levels, injury Hx and training Hx start with 80cm depth jumps. true story! 🙁

So much opportunity for coaches & rehab pros to learn about Ballistic training 😎Understanding dynamics of Stretch Shortening Cycles 🤮Arguing about what constitutes true plyometrics 💡Realizing med balls are the same. 🎓Having an intelligent way to apply and organize them
ICYMI: pogo jumps = jump rope 🤫 Yes, they’ve been around forever and have been known to be useful. 2 or 1 leg, alternating, lateral or traveling movement. You can do extensive (basic/slower rhythms) or intensive (faster speeds and double unders) Everything old is new again.
