1/ I was asked yesterday by someone to give examples of men who represented healthy masculinity and I thought, "well, it's men who don't think that being a man ultimately involves dominance over everyone in your surroundings".
It really seems as if, after what seemed like a brief period of enlightenment a couple of weeks ago, Germany is going backwards on this issue: more isolated from international opinion than ever, turning in on itself, refusing (unashamed, unafraid) to acknowledge its complicity.
Macklemore saying Israel is committing a genocide is reported as a “scandal” - while Gaza starving isn’t

This stage of the genocide, Israel’s use of mass starvation against Palestinians, now most directly resembles the mass starvation Uganda used against the Acholi people in the late 1990s. It was even called “the secret genocide” by a senior UN official: archive.is/Rv77J

This is not at all the priority now - of course it's not - but I do not think that Germany's reputation is coming back from this, and I do not think enough people here in Germany understand the scale of what is happening in terms of global disapproval.

I have personally reviewed many from the whole gallery of the Russian war crimes on the Malian population in Central and North Mali and it's still grim how completely barbaric the Russians behave.Hanging a whole family on a tree is one of the lighter ones. x.com/SaladinAlDronn…
New pictures emerged from the whole series began on February 11 and continuing until now, with Russians slaughtering civilians on a 200-km long road. A Fulani woman and her children were hanged together on a tree by Russians. One of the worst crimes on humanity I ever witnessed.
“My body is breaking down. My mother is collapsing from exhaustion. My cousin cheats death every day for a morsel of aid. Gaza's children are dying in front of our eyes, and we are powerless to help them.” 972mag.com/hunger-gaza-fo…
I’m going to post about these individually but posting a thread of Sudanese fundraisers now. If you have a moment to interact with them (you don’t have to interact with my post!), I’d be forever grateful. 🩷
Exactly. You can tell by the intensity of the rage when they go through a period of poor form, and contrasting that with the anger towards white players (Foden, Palmer, Grealish) who have at times been in similar form. There is a higher level of fury, and everyone knows it.
It’s hard to prove explicitly but as an ethnic minority you can tell when there’s underhanded, prejudicial threads to rhetoric. Rashford & Jackson aren’t perfectly footballers but the language used to ‘criticise’ them is often insidious. They’re also far better than people think.
From the messages we are receiving from Gaza, from the images we are seeing from Gaza, hunger is at its worst, by design. People fainting in the streets. Infants and children dying of hunger.
*taps mic* not sure if this thing is still on or how many people still read stuff on here (especially since the algorithm nuked my account), but just writing this to keep myself accountable for posting more essays this year. If you see anything of interest here, please share.

A prominent German columnist recently wrote a column that joked about these massacres, it got deleted after massive backlash, and there was *more* coverage and discussion of the columnist’s right to free speech than there was of constant massacres like these.
