To End Sudan’s Wars, A Comprehensive Response Is Needed: sudantransparency.org/to-end-sudans-… STPT is publishing two opinion pieces July 15 and 16 on the prospects for success of the upcoming Washington, D.C., meeting of the Quad mechanism—comprising the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt—in…
share.google/9fzTyKEgmPWO8u… In this BBC story, I join other analysts in examining the factors behind the recent escalation of deadly ground fighting and aerial strikes in the Greater Kordofan region. Once again, the deliberate targeting of civilians has become a hallmark of this…
“Only The Sudanese Can Save Sudan — Even If Trump Stops The War,” argue Abdul Mohamed and Alex de Waal in this piece published today by the Sudan Transparency & Policy Tracker (STPT): sudantransparency.org/only-the-sudan…

An open letter to the Sudanese people worth reading. The valuable advice given to our Sudanese brothers and sisters is also applicable to us, the Somali people. I wish peace and prosperity for both Somalia & Sudan. sudantransparency.org/only-sudanese-…
Burhan’s Khashogi’s Moment? Sudan’s embassy in Tripoli detained activist Mohamed Adam (Tupac), sparking fears for his safety amid reports of torture. Facing fabricated charges over a 2022 protest killing of a police general—when he was 15 yrs old, Tupac was repeatedly tortured in…
Quoted in today’s Economist coverage on Sudan’s escalating aerial warfare: economist.com/middle-east-an…
tinyurl.com/2zankvsb: Burhan concludes a visit to Mali, seemingly to please his Africa Corps allies. This recalls al-Bashir’s Dec2018 visit to Bashar al-Assad, flying there on a Wagner Group-leased jet. Bashir’s trip, set the stage for broader Arab normalization with Assad.
My thoughts on what 2025 may bring for Sudan: likely more of the same turmoil, hardships, and human suffering unless a robust and comprehensive peace process is prioritized and backed by effective mediation efforts. v.gd/pemKno
Hard to imagine there is any real due process here and that many of those suspected of being RSF spies were likely impoverished people that could not leave RSF areas in time or were racially profiled, as has been reported.
A Sudanese lawyer said on Tuesday that 250 people have been sentenced to death or life in prison for allegedly supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in areas under army control. sudantribune.com/article295344/
The U.A.E. tells the White House "it is not now transferring weapons" to Sudan's R.S.F. paramilitaries, "and will not do so going forward." At the least, this looks like the first Emirati admission that it has supplied the RSF, which it staunchly denied. vanhollen.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…

“Gold is destroying Sudan, and it’s destroying the Sudanese.” STPT's @baldozer09 quoted in today's NY Times expose on the role of gold in the war. nytimes.com/2024/12/11/wor…
v.gd/smqpIP UAE receives gold shipments from the RSF & an Emirati company is among the largest gold producers in SAF areas. @declanwalsh documents how the UAE is funding both sides in Sudan war directly and indirectly, leaving to them the killing of their own people.
I reflected on the nature of the war and its drivers to the Sudan Diaspora Network in Vienna Oct 24-26. Grateful to my hosts, the Vienna Institute For Intl Dialogue & Cooperation & Bruno Kreisky Forum, who facilitated my official meetings and media events. vidc.org/en/regions/afr…
The Advocacy Group for Peace in Sudan and STPT, with support from Freedom House, are kicking off a consultation tomorrow in Nairobi: "Sudan’s War & the Tension Between Peace & Transitional Justice: Transforming Narratives for a Peaceful Political Solution."
Today in Omdurman, the traditional Sufi processions celebrating the birth of the Prophet struggled to drown out the relentless barrage of artillery shells and air raids raining death and destruction on the capital.
Kassala today-Thousands chanted "There is no God but Allah" as they laid to rest Alamin Nour, tortured to death by GIS just because they can. Clashes erupted after news of his death. SDN’s judiciary, long subdued by political control, is unlikely to hold the culprits accountable.
Kassala erupted in anger today following the death of a young man in custody of the intelligence agency. Enraged crowds surrounded the GIS office, leading to riot police firing at the protesters. GIS agreed to hand the involved agents over to the AG Office to face justice.

If Israel and Hamas can agree on a truce for child anti-polio vaccinations, and Russia and Ukraine on exporting vital wheat, why can't the SAF and RSF agree on a truce to fight cholera epidemic and aid flood victims? reliefweb.int/report/sudan/s…
