If medicine believes Sjogrens is predominantly spit gland pathology, why would one opt to open the wallet to fund researching that? You can see deformed arthritic joints & imagine thats disabling->⬆️$$$ for RA. Kidney disease is dangerous, so fund lupus $$$. Spit? Naahh.

I once created a new name 4 Sjogrens where every letter stood for a Sjogrens manifestation. It came out "Motherf*cker." The name matched the systemic nature & the hellscape that Sjogrens is. Memorable too. Imagine "Sjogrens is now recognized as the motherf*cker it really is."

What can be done when a minimizing stereotype has been taught about a disease for 75 years and it prevents clinicians from recognizing the disease & its manifestations, it hinders research, it limits diagnoses for pts & contributes to no real progress in good novel treatments?
I'd vote for a name change for Sjogrens to combat the omnipresent outdated harmful stereotypes imbedded in the minds of students/residents in training to the degree most can't now see Sjogrens disease for the severe multisystem disease it is. #FreshStart #NewEyes
