New Jersey Citizen Action
@NJCitizenAction
Since 1982, we've combined advocacy, organizing, & policy work while providing free direct services in our fight for social, racial, & economic justice in NJ.
Our public officials should be distinguished by the fights they choose to fight and the people they stand up for. We applaud @NewJerseyOAG working to strengthen our democracy and helping protect our most vulnerable populations. open.substack.com/pub/njdemocrat…

At a time when we need more accountability from our government, changes to NJ’s OPRA have made it harder than ever for the public to get basic information. The new law didn’t just tweak OPRA - it stacked the deck entirely against transparency. njdemocrat.substack.com/p/one-year-lat…
Last year, NJ banned the reporting of medical debt to credit agencies. But the majority of states do not have such a law and will be hurt by this decision to undo the federal ban. axios.com/2025/07/13/cou…

Trump's Big, Ugly Bill renewed billionaire tax credits, but not the ACA tax credits. What does that mean? Well, for a 60-year-old making $25,000 premiums will go from $70 to over $400 per month. Who can afford that? All of this so Bezos can have an even more luxe honeymoon.…
Our coalition was born out of similar rate hikes in 2023, which did not come close to what we're seeing now. New Jersey cannot continue down this path. As health insurance premiums outpace wage growth, working families are taking home less and less each year.
Yesterday, the State Health Benefits Plan Commission announced drastic rate hikes for NJ's public employees, underscoring the urgent need to address the root causes of New Jersey's healthcare affordability crisis.
This is worth repeating. Again and again and again. The needs of the people of New Jersey are not being met. When facing an affordable housing crisis, taking money away from the affordable housing fund to plug a budget hole lawmakers KNEW was coming, is not a solution.
From @NJMonitor | Advocates say New Jersey budget falls short of affordable housing needs "Staci Berger, the network’s president and CEO, said the diversion contradicts years of coordinated planning with developers and investment in housing projects." newjerseymonitor.com/2025/07/03/adv…
“Allowing the New Jersey State Police to operate independently when federal authorities are increasingly unchecked sends the absolute wrong message to New Jerseyans, and in particular to immigrants, people of color, and our most vulnerable residents.” njurbannews.com/2025/07/07/adv…
