The weather source in the N.C. Sandhills for #Weatherhounds everywhere. If cancer's gonna kill me, it'll have to try harder #FightLikeHell True son of Clemson.
It was another day with widespread highs in the 90s across the area. But check out our current forecast for this Saturday - some places shouldn't make it out of the 70s! We still have a 30-60% chance of thunderstorms Saturday after more widespread thunderstorms Thursday/Friday.
Day 4 of the cookoff also goes to FAY, but the numbers are less gaudy 97-95 over RAH. Both teams are putting in the reserves to get some snaps ... and both are looking for blessed relief arriving this weekend.
A day later, and I'm amazed at the number of folks who shared sorrow at the passing of #TomLehrer. Icons like Weird Al, sure: but I've enjoyed post after post from all walks of life reflecting on the man who brought us such joy at poisoning pigeons and poking fun at Armageddon.
An #Otwituary for musical satirist of the 50s-60s #TomLehrer There’s comedy and parody and levity and melody, Alacrity, sagacity and mockery and repartee, There’s plenty of absurdists and they come at ten-a-penny. There may be one as sharp as him but I can’t think of any.
The long-duration, oppressive heat wave continues today. An Extreme Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory remain in effect until 8 PM tonight, with maximum heat indices reaching 113 degrees. Additionally, a Heat Advisory has been issued for Tuesday from 10 AM to 8 PM. #NCwx
Don't look for organized showers today, but the heat remains intact. Still a good chance for FAY to hit 100 today, with a heat index approaching 110. Remember: Heat stress is cumulative. The last few takes are taking a toll. Take life a little slower, especially on a Monday.
Last night's showers helped break the heat's hold for many in the Sandhills. FAY officially picked up a bit more than .5 inches, while down in Gray's Creek, storms dropped close to 2 inches in spots. Anderson Creek got .75-1 inch.
It's a hat trick for FAY! Even with a 20-degree drop, thanks to nearby showers, FAY topped RAH 100-98 to clinch the 5-day Great 2025 Cookoff. The heat index score was 116-108. Let there be no doubt ... if you can't stand the heat, get out of the Sandhills.

And suddenly the world is less smart, less insighful, and less funny. RIP Tom Lehrer
Dang! This one hurts! Godspeed to one of the musical bedrocks of my life. I'll go poison a pigeon or two in his honor. nytimes.com/2025/07/27/art…?
Noon update of the Great 2025 Cookoff: FAY is in good shape to clinch the title. It's 98-94 at lunchtime. FAY holds a 113-106 edge in heat index.

Day 3 of the Great 2025 Cookoff, and FAY holds an 83-81 lead over RAH at 8 a.m. With a heat index above 110 expected in both places, there's obviously no real winner here. Just take it easy outside, and check on elderly neighbors later today.
Heat Persisting Through The Middle of The Week. Damaging Wind Gusts Possible Today.
Despite afternoon showers in the vicinity that briefly drove temperatures down nearly 20 degrees, FAY topped RAH in Day 2 of the Great 2025 Cookoff, 100-98. That gives us a 2-0 lead. The big-city folks will now have to top FAY for the next 3 days to claim the title.
Dangerously hot weather will persist through early next week. Heat causes more deaths than any type of weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods. Respect the heat and take steps to stay safe! #heatsafety
Thanks and $1 to @EdPiotrowski ... but I miss my grandfather's favorite: "I'm sweating like a sinner on Sunday."

Bah! Mid-day of the Great 2025 Cookoff, and FAY holds a commanding 98-92 lead over RAH. Give it up, chumps! You'll never be as hot as FAY!
If this keeps trending, I'll have to give Mitch @SCweather_wx a season pass to #Club384. But he knows our bouncer anyway. Look for the Club's grand opening soon!
Wow.. Talk about a significant uptrend regarding a tropical wave emerging off Africa. This is the strongest MDR signal we have had so far this hurricane season..
The Great 2025 Cookoff competition between RAH and FAY goes into Day 2 with FAY holding an 82-80 lead at 8 a.m. Remember: This isn't a competition. No wagering.
High temperatures will combine with high relative humidity values to create oppressive heat conditions through the middle of next week. An Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory are in effect for all of central North Carolina from 11am today through 8pm Sunday. #NCwx
