Wise words from my friend John Fowler. Gutting funding basic research is a profoundly bad idea. Shocking that this has been flying under the radar and that it well might happen.
John Fowler’s guest column in the Clayton Tribune- his hometown newspaper- to provide ideas that folks could connect with, relating how federal investment in scientific research provides benefits to all Americans, including those from a small town in northeast GA. @jefowlerjr
#Soybean Colleagues – Please do join us for the #Soy2025 meeting July 23-25, 2025! We have an incredible set of speakers lined up, with more on the way, and a very enjoyable schedule on tap. See: conferences.union.wisc.edu/soy2025/
Reason number 4,517 (yes I'm counting) why @MaizeGDB is so awesome and we're so lucky as a community to have these folks. Also a great example of maize community sharing. UNPUBLISHED data already up on the community database showing conservation scores across the maize genome.
We're excited to share PlantCAD browser tracks: a new, unpublished dataset integrating AI techniques for plant genome analysis. Explore it here: github.com/andorfc/PlantC… We welcome the community's feedback and innovative use cases for this data!
A three year postdoctoral position is available in my group, investigating plant centromere structure, function and evolution @plantsci jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/51488/
The position will need to drive the project to the finish line, including pretty-plotting, additional analyses, and writing. If you are looking for a short, impactful project that will drive your career to the next level, please give us a shot :) 2/n osu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/OSUCaree…
Curious about 4mC and how our paper is different from the preprint? Check out the thread by the brilliant @James_Walker303 🤩🎉
I'm thrilled to share that our study is now published in Cell: Extensive N4 cytosine methylation is essential for Marchantia sperm function. cell.com/cell/fulltext/… This paper confirms our 4mC discovery in Marchantia sperm and takes it much further. A thread: 0/13
INARI is seeking a Bioinformatics Data Analyst. The role will collaborate with CompBio and AI team to support pipeline dev and internal tool creation, analyzing and integrating multiomics data. If you are interested in the position, feel free to reach out. grnh.se/13ce3ee22us
Congratulations to @NWangUF on this outstanding honor!
Two @UF researchers have been named Senior Members of the National Academy of Inventors. @AcadofInventors @UFWertheim @UF_IFAS news.ufl.edu/2025/02/nai-se…
What an amazing discovery from Scott Kennedy's lab! A new splicing system that recognizes transposons and removes them from mRNAs! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Welcome to "Why Science," a video series produced by @UFAEC students that explores the how and why behind the careers of UF/IFAS researchers! To kick off our series, meet Dr. Brent Christner, microbiologist with @UF_MCS, and learn why he chose his path in science.⬇️⬇️⬇️
Postdoc jobs in the Gaut lab! Brandon isn't on here, so I can be frank: he is fantastic. I did my postdoc with him and he is not only an amazing scientist but one of my favorite humans. I would have happily stayed in his lab forever if that was feasible. recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF08999
The Slotkin lab is hiring for an exciting project that involves gene editing, transposable elements and plant transformation! Please RT! paycomonline.net/v4/ats/web.php…
A new study is out: things that make you age faster, and slower, according to 16 epigenetic age clocks. 🧵
NSF announced three new NSF Innovation Corps Hubs, each funded up to $3M/year for the next five years — an investment providing experiential entrepreneurial training to researchers across all fields of science and engineering. Learn more: bit.ly/40DbRtY
Our work on evolution and functional divergence of DNA methyltransferases is out @ScienceAdvances. Kudos to @jiang_jianjun. We revealed how two closely related CMTs evolve and coordinately shape the non-CG methylation landscapes in plants. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
This unexpected paper on the epigenetics of plant aging brought my day a lot of joy. Evidence that epigenetic changes could be more of a consequence rather than a cause of aging!
It is my absolute pleasure to share my incredible postdoc Dawei's @amaizeingcorn manuscript on epigenetics and aging in Arabidopsis. It is the work I am most proud of thus far in my career, and every figure has a breakthrough that we are excited about biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…
Analyzing whole genome DNA methylation data? Our new method MethyLasso is out in NAR! It can help you identify regions with low or partial methylation (LMR, UMR, DMV, PMD, PMD) or differentially methylated regions (DMR) and was benchmarked against others doi.org/10.1093/nar/gk…
Our new paper is out @NatureCellBio🥳It shows how major epigenetic OFF mark, H3K27me3, is newly established at the beginning of life. This work was mainly carried out by a talented PhD student, Masahiro Matsuwaka👏 nature.com/articles/s4155… rdcu.be/dYJf Short summary↓↓
