Please share my post if you would like to see better hypothyroid care for patients. We need prompt, accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment, including access to liothyronine, T3 for those who need it. Sorry the article is behind a paywall unless you are a subscriber.
My article was published in Nature review! My struggle to get accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for hypothyroidism: nature.com/articles/s4157…
Thyroid disorders affect 1 in 20 pregnancies. Undiagnosed, they can have serious consequences for both parent & baby. Why aren’t we talking about this more? Learn more via the Thyroid Foundation of Canada: thyroid.ca/thyroid-diseas… #ThyroidHealth #MaternalHealth #CanadianHealth

Cancer and cardiac mortality is higher in people with high normal fT4 compared to those with low normal fT4. Levothyroxine monotherapy puts patients at risk. Combination therapy with a little T3 is safer. Levothyroxine monotherapy should not be routinely used.
Hugely lack of knowledge by drs about hypothyroidism. Certainly in UK, poor diagnosis and treatment. No understanding of how crucial T3 is. Treat to screen tests results, not symptoms. No choice of treatments. Countless 1,000s UK patients left on scrapheap. Huge change needed.
The findings are valid only for patients with hypothyroidism. The association between treatment that contains T3 with reduced cases of dementia is very significant. There are between 15 and 20 million patients with hypothyroidism in the US.
Hypothyroidism. Current Endos, forcibly prescribing just one replacement drug (levothyroxine) & ignoring hundreds of thousands of pts who can’t tolerate it & need combi therapy with T3 or t3 monotherapy. This is harm in the backwaters of NHS treatment
Can this be called normal? Look at T4 and T3 levels in LT4-treated patients with normal TSH. T4 stays high and T3 drops to the bottom of the reference range. This goes on for years, for the duration of the treatment. 1/2 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38506164/
It says that in the BTA Guidelines and that drs dont have to prescribe if they dont feel confident in doing so. It also says that if the person pays privately the NHS doesnt have to. 😩
This is horrible. T3 has been life changing for me.
Most doctors still rely on a 1970s model, using only TSH and T4 levels to diagnose and treat #hypothyroidism. But this model overlooks a critical truth: it's not about lab values, it's about tissue-level T3 effect. Lyme-literate physician (who introduced the Lyme community to…
The REAL causes behind hypothyroidism (even if your labs are "normal"): ◇ Low T3 levels (active thyroid hormone) ◇ High reverse T3 (inactive hormone) ◇ Stress (suppresses TSH, blocks T4 → T3) ◇ High cortisol and adrenaline (blocks T4 → T3) ◇ Free fatty acids (block T3…
People with hypothyroidism show significantly higher levels of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and key bacterial distinctions than those without the thyroid condition, according to results of a study. ms.spr.ly/6014sEnTE
It is 4 years since this thyroid guidance was published. There's plenty more evidence now that T3 is needed, and preferred by many. Trials quoted in 2019 were underpowered. We deserve better. Patients are being harmed. @NICEComms when will this be reviewed?
