Our commentary on appropriate uses of inverted encoding model analyses is out in #eNeuro - these techniques are powerful, but like all methods, should be used carefully. Special thanks to coauthors! (@kcs_adam @Josh_J_Foster @sutterer @vvobot & M Rahmati) eneuro.org/content/early/…

this is going to be such an awesome lab - so excited to see all the cool work! and @RiceUniversity is an absolutely amazing place to spend time! everyone should be jumping on this fantastic opportunity!
Happy announcement: Starting July 2023, I'll be joining Rice University as an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Psychological Sciences. I'm so excited to join the Rice community and to do lots of fun science in Houston! (Image: dalle mini of brains + owls -- Go Owls!)
#NEIfunded work discovers a neural mechanism for resource allocation when our working memory must use limited resources to remember multiple things. @NYU_CNS @NYUPsych @hsinhungli @M_ostlyHarmless @aspen__yoo @weijima01 @nyuniversity @ScienceAdvances: bit.ly/4lG8D0E
Happy to share our new study on the neural processes underlying the control of working memory resource. A collaborative work with @M_ostlyHarmless, @aspen__yoo, @weijima01, and Clayton Curtis. A fun process too designing the cover for @ScienceAdvances. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
I'm recruiting a Ph.D. student for the upcoming school year (Fall 2025). If you are interested in studying the neural bases of attention and working memory, I would love to hear from you! You can submit an application from now through Dec 1, 2024.

I feel like I'm making an announcement at a rapidly emptying party, but I wanted to share some exciting news: I am now an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Psych & Brain Sciences Department at UC Santa Barbara!
Had a great time presenting a collaboration study between myself, @DanThaye, @M_ostlyHarmless and @BarryGiesbrecht at #VSS2023. Thank you to everyone who came to the poster and gave such great feedback! Here’s the poster incase you didn’t have a chance to see it! @VSSMtg
cool new work by @SpragueLabUCSB PhD student Daniel Thayer (@DanThaye) with @BarryGiesbrecht on distractor suppression independent of spatial location link.springer.com/article/10.375… (also, our lab's very first paper! congrats Daniel!)

my lab is hiring a Junior Specialist (full-time researcher & lab manager) to start in Nov - please share with anyone you know who may be interested & qualified! we have an amazing community here at @UCSBpsych, and the cool work is just getting started - great time to join!
The Sprague Lab has a job opening for a Junior Specialist to help with ongoing projects in the lab. Full ad here: recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/JPF02276 Read more about our work at spraguelab.psych.ucsb.edu Review begins OCT 15, 2022
I have mixed feelings about this editorial.I appreciate that brain-wide association studies may be underpowered & that some groups defy averaging. But by generalizing the consequences to all of cog neuro I think it’s doing more harm than good to the field. nature.com/articles/d4158…
The Peters Lab is now open at Oxford and ready to build a team! We'll study how the brain learns and controls behavior, especially in the cortex-basal ganglia-thalamus circuit. peters-lab.org
We at @FlatironCCN are hiring a cohort of data scientists to work on neuro data and scientific software This is a great opportunity for students + postdocs who want to do creative science but aren't sold on a faculty career track! Please apply + retweet! simonsfoundation.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/simonsfoundati…
So anyway - try to be patient with your colleagues and instructors with little ones. We're doing our best!
And btw, parents still have to pay the full monthly rate even if their kid is out for half the month. We're lucky that it's *only* about $1900 a month for UCSB employees here - I've heard far worse numbers from friends in big cities.
Our little guy brought home Omicron in his very first week at daycare! So efficient! He generously shared it with me, of course. We've had two additional colds since then, and several doctor's visits. All while my husband and I try to teach and do research.
We're a little over two months in - how has "full-time" daycare been? It's been... okay. Last week was our very first full week of care!
Yes, please, any patience or understanding goes a really long way. It’s taking much longer than I expected to find my rhythm again after going so long with no childcare support. Things are feeling more natural finally, but there are still frequent hiccups

Incredibly grateful that we’re finally finding our rhythm. Last quarter also involved multiple rapid shifts in mode of instruction (& teaching a new class), so I never quite felt like I was on my feet. Excited for this quarter - first in-person undergrad teaching since fall 2019!
