@M_G_Thompson
Postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Patrick Shih at LBNL. Loves all things bacterial and trying to understand what plants are. Views my own. He/him.
Galls: beautiful little insect-houses that plants make on-demand when an insect asks very nicely. Our paper analyzing their structure and chemistry is out in Plant Physiology: academic.oup.com/plphys/advance…
🚨 New preprint alert! 🚨 We used single-cell RNA-seq + GRN analysis to uncover novel morphogenic genes that boost #maize transformation frequency 🌽 biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Thanks to @plaza_genomics and all other co-authors! #PlantScience #scRNAseq
Check out our new preprint! We examined sources of variability of transgene expression in N. benthamiana agroinfiltration and ways to minimize it. Graduate student Sophia Tang observed FP expression in >1,800 plants over the course of nearly 3 years! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
We're excited to share another work from our lab this week. We present ENTRAP-seq, the first massively parallel reporter assay to characterize protein-coding libraries in plants. Congrats to Simon, Lucas, and all other co-authors. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Happy to share our new publication out today in @NaturePlants where we quantitatively dissect synergy and antagonism that occurs during Nicotiana benthamiana transient agroinfiltration. Congrats to Simon, Matthew, Mitch and all other co-authors! nature.com/articles/s4147…

The Shih Lab is interested in .@UCBerkeley undergraduates who are interested in working with fungi in our lab located at @jbei! If you are interested please DM us!
Congrats to our very own @allie_npearson for winning Best Poster Award at the @ ECI Biochemical and Molecular Engineering XXIII in Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪 on her work uncovering the genetic basis of dicarboxylic acid metabolism. We are so proud! 💚🤍🧡
Congratulations to Dave Savage – our co-founder and scientific advisor, the head of @SavageCatsOnly Lab, and now @UCBerkeley Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology!
Congrats to MCB's David Savage @SavageCatsOnly on his promotion to Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology! 👏🥂 mcb.berkeley.edu/news-and-event…
Excited to share I will be joining @Stanford @bioe_stanford this fall as an asst. prof! My group will harness fungi for food and sustainability applications. We’ll soon be recruiting on all fronts - stay tuned !! Grateful to @BalskusLab @Keasling_Lab @UCB_MillerInst for support!
The latest #cellfree natural products work from my lab! nature.com/articles/s4159…
❤️
I wrote down my rules on how to Science. I hope you find it useful!
Our biorxiv paper has been updated with more experimental evidence for intrabacterial antagonism !! 🧫🧪🎉 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
New manuscript on our MAMP work, out in bioRxiv soon! @Dani_M_Stevens
First preprint from the lab! We have a new tool that automates the annotation of many kinds of bacterial genome and MGE features. It also includes gene databases for plant-associated microbes and an optional Agrobacterium-specific pipeline. Try it out!
We released a bacterial genome annotation pipeline, Beav, from the Weisberg Lab (@weisbergaj). GitHub: github.com/weisberglab/be… The preprint is also out: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Please test it, use it, and report any bug. Let us know about any feature you like!
Excited to be in sunny San Diego for PAG 31! I’ll be giving a talk at tomorrow’s workshop “Spatially Resolved Transcriptomics in Plant and Animal Species” at 1:30pm. Hope to see some familiar faces there!
For #MushroomMonday I'm thrilled to announce work I contributed to is published now in New Phytologist! It's all about life history strategies of the coolest mushroom, the death cap mushroom! Check it out here: ow.ly/s7Bo50Qn5xq
Excited to share our first paper from the lab! "Lanthanide Cathodophores for Multicolor Electron Microscopy" biorxiv.org/content/10.110… To combine super-res fluorescence imaging and electron microscopy, why not use an electron beam to make lanthanide nanoprobes glow?! More in 🧵
📢 We are looking for a research associate with experience in handling phages to join our #Phage Foundry team at Berkeley, California. Please apply here: jobs.lbl.gov/jobs/research-…
On this truly wild day full of 🥂and 🎉 for the Roads to Removal roll-out, we have yet another reason to celebrate: Congrats to my coauthors @RealUmakant @zzautam & @baralnawa on this @PNASNews article about carbon crops and sustainable aviation fuels!! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
