James Stroudley worked through a series of influences, from early Italian artists to Cubism, in order to achieve the draughtsmanship that underpins his work. This landscape depicts the cliffs in Saltdean, East Sussex, from around 1940.

'A Wet Night at Piccadilly Circus' (1910) by Arthur Hacker (Royal Academy)
This is "NE Bethnal Green" by George Board from 1928. This is the only known surviving example of George's work in oils despite the fact that he was a regular contributor to shows. I'd love to know where this scene might have been in Bethnal Green but, to date, it has eluded me.

The Pacific Mutual Life and Accident Building in this night time work by Frank Coburn (c1920) still stands along South Grand Avenue at 6th Street in downtown Los Angeles.
