Shocking to see yet another dangerous pursuit where lives are put at risk—both Gardaí and the public. The lengths some will go to avoid arrest highlight the urgent need for a robust, nationwide training framework for pursuit driving.

My first priority as Minister for Justice is to get more Gardaí on our streets. Garda recruitment is now open. It’s a job worth doing.

Proper pursuit training was recommended years ago. Yet here we are in 2025 - no such training exists, officers waiting for basic response courses, and a new policy that criminals are exploiting. These incidents show the real-world impact.
