By Doug Smith: Very many Ugandans are just one medical bill away from abject poverty. wp.me/pafCQG-1m
She was so happy and the family named the kid after me, Smith.. I also saw a father fail to pay her kid's medical bill when the kid was admitted with severe malaria - the dad was asked to stay as a cleaner until their bill was covered by his salary.. I posted about this
I am building something - I don't care how long it takes but I believe it will help! In 2019 while working in a health facility in Ibanda, a mother delivered a baby boy and she didn't afford the medical bill. I rallied a community whatsapp group and we raised the money 1/2
We are really one hospital bill away from running mad.
Different things affect your access to healthcare, especially regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights. For example, a sex worker in Kololo might have more access to contraception and safe abortion services as compared to the sex worker in Rakai.
I bring this up because when we indicate diagnosis as “Incomplete abortion” on discharge forms clients come complaining that we’re accusing them of trying to abort yet it was a miscarriage.
Please note that the word “miscarriage” doesn’t exist in medical lingo, we use abortion instead. A “miscarriage” is known as a Spontaneous Abortion and is further subdivided into; threatened abortion, inevitable abortion, incomplete abortion, complete abortion & missed abortion.
This the place I need to go back too. I actually want two tats 🤭
