MDHR found that MPD engages in racist practices. Minneapolis council asked to strengthen the state consent decree by incorporating elements of the federal consent decree dismissed by Trump. City attorney said there’s no legal path. This is why people don’t trust police reform.

Re: Minneapolis police accountability, the city attorney told Council there’s no legal pathway to incorporate federal consent decree provisions related to legally binding police reform compliance (dismissed by Trump) in the MDHR consent degree. Shoutout to CM Wonsley for trying.

Because they have not studied or worked in authoritarian bureaucracy, liberal reporters and pundits are underplaying the consequences of 100,000s more ICE agents and private contractors. The failure to explain these provisions of the new budget to the public is inexcusable.

In 2024 the City of Minneapolis approved a 21.7% pay increase for MPD over 3 years. This happened despite investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and Minnesota Department of Human Rights confirming CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS.
