💰The Cost of Renewables 2025 Megathread💰 The Government is pushing the narrative that renewables are cheap and gas is the problem. It's been 18 months since my last thread showed this to be a lie. Have things changed? Or is Ed Miliband driving us towards ruin? 🧵

Spain keeps claiming that solar and wind didn't cause the blackout (lack of spinning momentum to ensure power stability) but they've increased their gas power use by 41% to "stabilize the country’s power network" using gas "as a reinforcement of electricity supply security"…
This answers a question I was asking friends - "Have any of you or family and friends ever been impacted by the water pollution that is filling media outrage. Do you think the hype is overdone vs effect on everyone's real lives?"
It's awful what the water industry has done to English waters... 🔸ammonia concentrations have reduced to about 15% of the average in 1990 🔸BOD concentrations have reduced to 55% to 60% of the average in 1990 🔸orthophosphates have reduced to 15% to 20% of averages in 1990
The Met Office has unlimited sites available for placing measuring equipment. Why would they position them anywhere other than class 1 and 2 sites?
As the UK Met Office continues to open more junk temperature measuring sites, suspicions are mounting that the apparent incompetence hides an agenda to inflate the warming trend to drive the alarmist Net Zero narrative. dailysceptic.org/2025/07/23/sus…
Britain uses ~30% less energy & 25% less electricity than in 2000 – despite population increase. The Americans use the same amount of energy as then & 15% per cent more electricity. That’s a big part of the reason why they still have economic growth and we do not. #CostOfNetZero
"As Britain’s Leftist puritans enforce rationing, America lives in abundance" I've written in the @Telegraph tonight about our establishment's refusal to adopt an abundance mentality and their fundamentally disdainful attitude to economic growth. 👇 telegraph.co.uk/gift/e8f85378b…
Did someone truly think it would help take the heat out of the immigration debate by moving a large number of asylum seekers to a swanky hotel located in one of the most expensive quarters of London? Jesus wept. It's practically encouraging people to protest.
Excellent appointment. @NeilDotObrien 's SubStack papers are always fascinating

FYI, I’ve taken a deeper dive into today’s news on UK government borrowing 🤓 TL;DR – no sign here that Rachel Reeves has 'fixed the (fiscal) foundations'... 🧵

We're spending £110bn on debt interest. If that were a government department it would be the 4th largest by spend. The last time it was this expensive to borrow (30yr gilts), I was 6 years old. Yet in June the govt borrowed more money than in any June ever, bar Covid. Insane.
Public sector net borrowing excluding public sector banks was £20.7 billion in June 2025. This was £6.6 billion more than in June 2024 and the second-highest June borrowing since monthly records began in 1993, behind that of June 2020. Read more ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/govern…
Read this and weep. Just a year in office and the socialists have already run out of other people's money.
🚨 The latest public sector finance stats for June just dropped from @ONS and they're a fiscal horror show. Borrowing up, debt interest up, deficit up, spending up and taxes up. Here's what you need to know about how the government's finances are spiralling🧵
Labour have just admitted their “Islamophobia” working group may consult… … the MCB - supposedly banned from government engagement… … MEND - attacked by the Met Commissioner… … and affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood. Whose side are they on? questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questi…

🧵1/ Offshore wind compared to worst ever conceived nuclear project before, even before considering the additional transmission and volatility costs: Wind: $3b/.4GW*20yr=$.375b/GW*yr Hinkley C: $34b/3GW*80yr=$.142b/GW*yr
Nuclear/renewables cost comparison. That's why the finance market has fled new nuclear.
It is quite concerning that the average Joe has bought into the lie that English waters are dirtier than ever. When the opposite is true. It’s the unintended consequence of good water monitoring. Why people should look at the trends vs the readings in isolation.

In the time it has taken China to build 20,000 kilometres of high-speed railway, one part of Lincolnshire, has managed to build less than one fifth of one road. In the works since 2011, the Spalding Western Relief Road ends abruptly in an empty field 🧵👇
BREAKING: Government borrowing rose significantly more than expected last month as debt interest payments soared. 🔗 Read more trib.al/9zLGE9r
How did a man this stupid teach in a British university? Profit is value added. The excess of value produced over the costs of production. The entire point of all economic activity, to add value. GDP itself is the measure of value added. Profit is the whole damn point
