Around 1.2 million people are hospitalized involuntarily due to mental illness in the US each year. Policymakers are thinking of expanding such programs across the country. We conducted the first study to determine the causal effects of involuntary hospitalization.

Someone on my substack comments was told by her physician that SSRIs are “safer than tic tacs.” She’s 11 years into SSRI withdrawal having lost “my career, my marriage, my finances, for many years I was housebound.”
If serotonin plays a crucial role in fetal development (which it does) & if SSRIs disrupt the serotonin system (which they do) then the SSRIs must alter fetal development - and the public should be warned. This point was not disputed at yesterday's panel.

As girls and women, we deserve to know that there are serious risks to taking psychiatric drugs during pregnancy. These risks should be communicated to us well before we conceive, given how long (i.e. potentially years) so many of us need to safely taper off these drugs.
