Learning about aging and longevity / Étudier le vieillissement et la longévité
Our lab is looking for motivated Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers to study how nucleo-cytoplasmic protein partitioning affect proteostasis, autophagy and aging using C. elegans. DM here. Please check our website: sites.google.com/view/lapierrel…
Smoking as an aging accelerator across tissues. At a population level, it would be interesting to determine the extent of the contribution of general air quality to epigenetic drift and consequently the overall incidence of age-related diseases.

This is the reality in the US, a massive defunding of biomedical research. Canada is also vulnerable to this. To avoid such devastating cuts to innovation, legislative protection for scientific funding is necessary. @CIHR_IRSC @NSERC_CRSNG @ResearchCda @MarkJCarney @melaniejoly

A fantastic collaborative story led by the Luciani lab at U. Zurich about the conserved role of ATG-7 in metabolism and kidney biology! Excellent work by our worm whisperer Adia Ouellette on the C. elegans fluorescent reporters and respiration analyses! medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
Very interesting ranking. Creativity is absolutely necessary for the development of innovations in engineering and life science research. Fostered in a culture of academic excellence, creativity can become a powerful asset for economic development.
Creativity is increasingly becoming recognised as an important skill for workers. PISA Volume III measured creative thinking abilities in students globally. See what the top performing countries are doing differently: oecd.org/en/publication… #WorldCreativityandInnovationDay
These numbers are totally unheard of. This is not something that can reverse overnight. I saw glimpse of issues while a PI in the US with international talent recruitment and retention about a decade ago, but this is beyond technicalities and paperwork delays. This is huge.
"This is my home - I really love my country. But a lot of my mentors have been telling me to get out, right now" 75% of US scientists who answered our poll are considering relocating. Read the full story: go.nature.com/4iJhsov
Generally across Canada, more applications for Project Grants @CIHR_IRSC were streamlined during the Fall 2024 competition compared to Spring 2024. On the bright side, the % streamlined in the Maritimes Provinces and N&L improved (78% to 64%)! cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/54191.html
University of Ottawa is hiring a faculty studying the physiology of invertebrates - great opportunity for emerging C. elegans researchers to consider establishing their lab in Canada! can-acn.org/tenure-track-p….
Perfect timing to recruit scientific talent, especially Canadians currently in the US. Arguably, a 1-month post on Science Careers likely is too short of a timeline for such a prestigious position considering the incredible worldwide talent pool in translational research.
