Just wrapped up filming the last lecture for my graduate "Shape Analysis" course (@MIT @MITEECS @MIT_CSAIL 6.838)! Check out this playlist for 36 hours, 57 minutes, 39 sec of [admittedly idiosyncratic] lectures covering topics in applied geometry: youtube.com/playlist?list=… 🎉🚨🔥💻
I signed & encourage others to join. Venue choice is fraught. Inevitably attendees will encounter visa issues, distance, expense, local politics, & other challenges. This venue, however, is simply unsafe for LGBTQ+ researchers, and the leadership's defensiveness is unacceptable.
Computer Graphics as a field avoids gatekeeping. Practitioners come from many disciplines, origins and beliefs. SIGGRAPH has historically carried this promise. Holding SIGGRAPH Asia 26' in a venue unsafe to many is counterproductive. Sign if you agree. docs.google.com/document/d/1ZS…
I had a lot of fun working on this project 😃 Training 1000+ LoRAs to do interesting experiments, digging into vLLM, improving the algorithm to work at scale. Thanks @RickardGabriels for your hard work and congrats 😎
💡 Our new work at @ICML2025: Serve thousands of LoRA adapters with minimal overhead—a step towards enabling LLM personalization by finetuning. We also expanded the largest open LoRA hub to 1,200+ adapters! 📜 Paper: arxiv.org/pdf/2407.00066 🤗 LoRAs: huggingface.co/Lots-of-LoRAs w/…

While making some figures for SGI* this year, I made some "behind the scenes" footage of how they get made: youtube.com/playlist?list=… Basically a video extension of cs.cmu.edu/~kmcrane/faq.h… ("figures?") *SGI is a great program run by @JustinMSolomon & deserves more funding
Totally agree. I took linear algebra 3 times before it clicked: an abstract-ish version in high school, a very abstract proof-based one freshman year, & then an applied one my senior year w/ @JustinMSolomon. It wasn't until the last one that things started to make sense!
Hot take: teaching linear algebra in isolation should be illegal. Determinants, traces, eigenvectors mean nothing without real-world context. 20 years later, I still have to google this s**** every time I encounter it, because whoever taught me this was drier than drywall.
A new mathematical approach from @MIT researchers allows animators to simulate rubbery and elastic materials in a way that preserves the physical properties of the material and avoids pitfalls like instability. news.mit.edu/2025/animation…
Our work was featured by MIT News today! Had so much fun working on this project with Silvia Sellán, Natalia Pacheco-Tallaj and @JustinMSolomon. Can't wait to present it at SIGGRAPH this summer! news.mit.edu/2025/animation…
What an amazing start to our #Eurographics2025 keynotes from @JustinMSolomon on optimization for geometry processing - lots of useful optimization tools, and so many more interesting challenges yet to be solved!
Our Summer Geometry Initiative is more popular than ever, with a record # of applicants. But thanks to "2025 problems," SGI needs sponsors for it to survive past 2025. Please contact me if you're interested or have ideas!
MathJobs.org and MathPrograms.org remain down due to our hosting provider’s server issue. As a result, both applicants and administrators are unable to access the system at this time. Our hosting provider is actively working to resolve the situation. 1/4 🧵
📢New England Symposium on Graphics 2025 is BACK on April 26 at @MIT. Join us for inspiring talks, including a keynote by Prof. @wkjarosz plus a poster session, networking, & more. Attendance is FREE—register now: forms.gle/5zWWAQL4KtU74w…. Full details: nesg.graphics
SGI applicants: The site we use to host/process applications went down, and we haven’t received an update when it’ll be restored. Please hold tight and know we will release decisions as soon as we can. (Meanwhile, please refrain from emailing for an update or early decision.)
Applications due in less than a week!
Announcing SGI 2025! Undergrads and MS students: Apply for 6 weeks of paid summer geometry processing research. No experience needed: 1 week tutorials + 5 weeks of projects. Mentors are top researchers in this emerging branch of graphics/computing/math. sgi.mit.edu
I can highly recommend the Summer Geometry Initiative (SGI) by @JustinMSolomon. It is a six-week paid summer #research program introducing undergraduate and graduate students to the field of #geometryProcessing. Details: sgi.mit.edu applications due February 17, 2025.
