I enjoyed - and really benefited from! - my experience with WiGRAPH last year. Consider applying or helping out!
there are two types of research papers, those that incrementally improve upon classes of research and those that develop entirely new classes of research, like this. Congratulations @rohansawhney1 and this is a great achievement — and excited to see more physics built on top of…
Huge congratulations to my former PhD student @rohansawhney1 for winning the @siggraph Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award! 🥳 Rohan's thesis develops a whole new class of Monte Carlo methods for solving physical equations, without needing to break the world up into a mesh.

If you're a prospective PhD student interested in geometry, topology, and applications in geometric/visual computing, check out the incredible Mark Gillespie, who is joining the faculty at graphics.cs.utah.edu—and looking for students! markjgillespie.com
I've updated my blog post to walk through the remaining technical details of our Surface Winding Numbers algorithm: now the calculus of the algorithm is explained a bit more in detail. The post, paper, code, etc. is all here: nzfeng.github.io/research/WNoDS…
My SIGGRAPH 2023 presentation of "Winding Numbers on Discrete Surfaces", authored with @MarkGillespie64 and @keenanisalive , is now on YouTube: youtu.be/QnMx3s4_4WY
Applications are open for WiGRAPH's 2025 Rising Stars program! Apply here: wigraph.org/programs/risin…
I've added the algebraic multigrid method (amgcl.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) to the `signed-heat-3d` repo (github.com/nzfeng/signed-…), leading to 5x-10x speedups. (Thanks for the suggestion @MarkGillespie64 & @jrsassen!) Still many low-hanging fruits for acceleration - stay tuned ...
C++ code is out! The Signed Heat Method has been added to geometry-central. In 3D, compute generalized SDFs to point clouds, triangle meshes, and polygon meshes. The method should "just work" on geometry with holes, intersections, nonmanifold-ness, etc. Links below 🔽
Announcing SGI 2025! Undergrads and MS students: Apply for 6 weeks of paid summer geometry processing research. No experience needed: 1 week tutorials + 5 weeks of projects. Mentors are top researchers in this emerging branch of graphics/computing/math. sgi.mit.edu
How are Kernel Smoothing in statistics, Data-Adaptive Filters in image processing, and Attention in Machine Learning related? My goal is not to argue who should get credit for what, but to show a progression of closely related ideas over time and across neighboring fields. 1/n
Generating nice meshes in AI pipelines is hard. Our #SIGGRAPHAsia2024 paper proposes a new representation which guarantees manifold connectivity, and even supports polygonal meshes -- a big step for downstream editing and simulation. (1/N) SpaceMesh: research.nvidia.com/labs/toronto-a……
Please share: Our lab is looking for new PhD students starting 2025! If you are interested in research in geometry, computational design and digital fabrication, join us at EPFL! More info on the lab: epfl.ch/labs/gcm/ More info on how to apply: epfl.ch/education/phd/…
My group will be seeking new PhD students in the coming cycle! The best way to reach us is to apply to the @MITEECS PhD program. I look for independent, creative, interactive, supportive, passionate, bright students who want to work on fundamental problems with a geometry flavor.
