Nassau County has allowed ICE to detain over 1,400 people in our community. As a state legislator, I have the legal right to conduct oversight tours of local jails. We were told we could tour the housing unit—in an hour.
@SolagesNY and I are at East Meadow Jail right now to utilize our rights as state electeds to inspect the facility. The facility has unlawfully denied us entry, even as we handed them a copy of the law. We are working on escalating.
