Bumping this one more time. What are the Pirates telling us with their actions or lack of them? It’s not good.
We were told in 2023 that late-season improvement mattered. It could build momentum. Which means the opposite can also exist, right? Why the Pirates are keeping Ben Cherington, allowing this slide to continue, makes no sense. And it's getting worse: post-gazette.com/sports/jason-m…
A few years ago the Pirates tried to tell us that in-season improvement mattered. So shouldn't in-season disaster also count? My column after they were swept by the White Sox at home: post-gazette.com/sports/jason-m…

FWIW, this is hardly a criticism of the Mac Miller bobblehead or the promotion. Was cool to see people lined up early, excited and celebrating an artist who clearly means a lot to our city. Just pointing out that some had dissenting opinions.
Catching up on the Pirates after going to dinner and for a walk with my family … Mac Miller bobbleheads and frustration over the Pirates’ promotion of it, more bad baseball, boos & “Sell the Team” chants, seemingly stealing a T-shirt design … am I missing anything? Busy night.
Last year was a tale of two for Pitt's Eli Holstein. For the Panthers to smooth it out and have success, they need their first version of that quarterback. My column: post-gazette.com/sports/jason-m…

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers — who are run by the guy (Matt Arnold) the Pirates turned down in favor of Ben Cherington — just swept the Dodgers and have won 10 in a row.
Michael A. Taylor played in 2 of the 3 games this series. He went 3-8(.375) with a 2B and 3 RBI. In those same 2 games Cruz, Reynolds, Suwinski, Pham, and Canario went a combined 3-22(.136) with 2 RBI.
Swept by the White Sox at home, -20 run differential, and the Pirates are officially a losing franchise. Just an awful weekend. Should beget change, but sadly I’m sure it won’t.
Cruz, Bart & Suwinski down on 3 of the ugliest swinging strikeouts you'll see. Just brutal here right now.
The Pirates will need six runs to win. They have yet to score that many in a game this month.
Funny exchange that was audible from the press box: Fan: "Sell the team!" Someone else: "Yeah, both of 'em!"
One time through the order for Chicago: 4 XBH, 2 HR, including that double from Michael A. Taylor. White Sox are seeing Andrew Heaney well.
Sheesh. Miguel Vargas with a 3-run homer, then Mike Tauchman follows with one that winds up in the Allegheny. Pirates have recorded one out and trail, 4-0.
Researching second-half stats for this Pirates regime. Record from 2021-24: 113-166 (.405 or 66-win pace) See below for a few year-by-year stats & ranks. Can't say I'm surprised by much of it.

For my part in our series on CTE, I caught up with two members of Mike Webster’s family to talk about his legacy and their journey: post-gazette.com/sports/jason-m…
Just think: The White Sox are doing all of this without Jack Parkman, too. Impressive.
