I completely agree with this. But does no one see a problem for English chess if someone 50+ wins the championship? Where are the modern equivalents of Miles, Nunn, Speelman, Mestel, even Hodgson? I don’t see it. I encourage the current crop of young ones to prove me wrong.
I am used to extolling the incredible consistency of @MickeyAdamsGM - into his 50s but still so often victorious . Still, this latest victory in the @ecfchess Champs (after a tense play-off) was something else. Superb chess throughout, for me his finest since the 2023 Classic.👏

I’ve just been on a trip on the river. Westminster to Hampton Court. If you have a few hours to spare and the weather is nice, I strongly recommend it (or you can just go to Kew, or Richmond). Hardly costs anything.
